    1.  The Characteristics of a Missouri Fox Trotting Horse

It was during the mid-19th century in the robust Ozark Hills where the famous Missouri Fox Trotting Horse was born.  The breed developed to aide settlers around the hills who wanted easy riding experiences and horses that would be durable when mounting and climbing the rugged terrains in the area.

They wanted horses that would be able to travel far and wide or even breeds that would be sure footed and would have a great gait as well was desired, hence came along the development of the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse.

The main characteristics of the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse would be noticed with its gait, foxy gait.  The way it walks around with its front feet and the hinds used for trotting.  Such gait would allow the riders to have an easy ride because the hind feet of the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse stay in place while movement is on.

The breed is known to move with rhythmical gaits and thus the speed the horse maintains is quite consistent for a very long period, nil or very less fatigue for the horse involved.

These are the reasons why the settlers of the Ozarks preferred the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse.  The breed very soon became popular amongst cattlemen, sheriffs, country physicians, doctors, and even tax collectors as well.  This was at a time when roads or even cars were not around, and the only mode of transportation for these men was Missouri Fox Trotting Horses.

The Missouri Fox Trotting Horse has great stamina, is of sound nature and has a disposition, which is quite gentle for the human choice of riding.  Even kids can use them for mounting and the breed is known to have helped many novice riders learn the art of riding as well, since they are willing to help.  It is because of the smoothness in the gait of the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse, which does not allow bouncing to happen for those who are learning or inexperienced at riding horses.

The gait of the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse is very diagonal and they walk and trot front and behind in a certain rhythmic way.  The tail and the head of the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse are elevated a little, which makes the animal carry you gracefully.  In addition, when you ride the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse, you would hear the hooves produce a rhythmic pattern, which is pleasant to the ears.  Not once would you feel bumpy riding the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse, for the nodding stance of the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse while riding the breed would put you at ease.

The average size of a Missouri Fox Trotting horse is 14 to 16 hands.  The average life expectancy is roughly in the late 20's to mid-30's, with some horses known to live into their late 30's and even 40's sometimes, but that is more rare than the average horse life expectancy.

Most say the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse is very animated by the way; it travels especially its style and
