About this ebook

Em’s relationship with Penn is going remarkably well. Even with the hassles of Em’s lascivious best friend and Penn’s demanding job, they’ve managed to build what could possibly be something long-lasting. Unfortunately for Em, every time life seems to flow right, the wrong always hits.

Penn admits dating Em isn’t easy. Many people would steer clear of the emotional baggage. But once Penn glimpses the man behind the unseen scars, he’s a goner. Not one to mince words, and because his boyfriend needs to hear it, Penn makes sure Em knows how he feels every day...even if Em isn’t ready to return the sentiment.

Then, with one surprise phone call, Penn finally learns why Em doesn’t share his heart easily. When someone is never given emotional security, how can they possibly know how to feel it, to reciprocate it? That’s okay. Penn is a tenacious man with one chief purpose right now—to give Em a chance to love.

I annoy, love, respect, scare, seduce, hurt, anger, infatuate, frustrate, flatter, envy, amuse and tolerate everyone. I just do it better in writing thanks to a little thing called...edits. Okay no, seriously...I'm a simple minded person who enjoys the escape from real life through a book. I write with the group Story Orgy and hope to continue doing so for a long time. I also am privileged to be with the Pulp Friction writers creating intermingling books in a world all our own. And just like every other red blooded human – I love hearing from people. So feel free to drop me a line – whether it's a comment on my blog, an email, a tweet or you track me down on FaceBook or Google + ... it's easy to catch someone who wants to be caught.

This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, locations, incidents and positions are completely and absolutely a part of the author's skewed imagination. Any resemblance to actual persons living or deceased, businesses, events or locales are entirely coincidental and maybe a little bit freaky.

    Chance at Love

    Chapter 1

Em Litten unlocked his best friend Joss’s front door and stepped inside. Yeah, I just arrived, he said to his boyfriend, Penn Borda, with the phone wedged between his ear and shoulder. Lifting his chin slightly away from the phone, he projected his voice. Joss, I’m here!

Baby, could you please pull the phone away from your mouth before you scream into it next time?

Oops. Oh shit, I’m so sorry, Penn. My hands are full of breakfast and gym bag… I mean my gym bag and the phone is on my shoulder…um… Gimme a sec?

    Sure, Penn chuckled.

Em leaned over the couch and let the phone fall safely from his shoulder. It didn’t make a sound as it bounced on the soft cushion. Swiveling around, he launched into the kitchen to deposit his hefty load on the table in there.

An ass sticking up in the air halted him in his tracks. The owner of said ass was doubled over in the fridge with no issues about showing off his pale white buttocks and deep brown thong.

Sadly enough, it wasn’t the derriere that shocked him. When you were best friends with one Joss Hopkins it unfortunately became second nature to see asses of all sizes, races, and genders prominently on display in his apartment.

Seeing such a sun-deprived one in what could only be called a shit-brown thong, though…well, that might be a first for Em. No matter how nice the sight was, the color choice just ruined the whole show.

Ahem… Em cleared his throat, not knowing the politically correct way to announce himself to a ninety-nine percent naked man trying to climb into a kitchen appliance.

The stranger remained bent at the waist as he looked over his shoulder. You must be Em. Joss said you were coming by. Hey, you wouldn’t know if he has any orange juice in here?

Um…probably not, he prefers grapefruit juice. He claims it makes a better mixer. Em rearranged the bags so he could offer his hand. And you are?

The man smiled as he straightened up and turned around. Some mumbling came from the other room and Em spoke before the stranger could introduce himself. Hold that thought. He roughly heaped the bags on the table and hurried back to the living room. Joss, you better not be on my phone, he hollered.

Sure enough, his best friend stood in the middle of the tackily furnished living room, chatting on the phone with Penn. Em cringed. This won’t end well.

Sure, Penn liked Joss enough—the man was the reason Penn and Em went on their first date—but Penn seemed to like Joss a whole lot better in short, supervised doses and only if Joss promised to be on his best behavior. Saturday morning with a thong-clad man walking around the house did not constitute his best behavior, and Em was sure Penn would find that out in T minus ten seconds.

As if to cement that thought, Joss flicked his tongue at Em then continued with his conversation.

Well, at least he was fully clothed…

Em tried to snatch the phone but Joss two-stepped and twirled away from him while continuing his harassment of Penn. Come on, snookum. You know you want to go to the movies with me. That new chick flick, with that chick—oh oh oh and that great dick—is playing. Talk about perfect. He sing-songed the last lines. I promise to wear my leather mini and stilettos if you say yes.

Okay, that was closer to five seconds, not ten.

Joss Hopkins, give me that phone, Em seethed through his teeth.

Joss gave him the worst kissy face in response. Now, my little stick of rock candy, you don’t know that you won’t like it. You’ve never seen how I swish while in flaming red five-inchers.

Climbing over the most uncomfortable couch in the world to try and get his hands on his ex-best friend, Em shouted at the phone, "I’m sorry,
