Reviews of this short story are welcomed and encouraged.

In today’s world, the lifeblood of any product on Amazon or any online store are the reviews left by customers. No need for a long and involved dissection of the story, just a simple sentence such as, I liked it or It was garbage and a star rating will suffice. The more reviews The Rectifier garners the more it will be noticed by other readers…like you.

    Thank you.

    CHAPTER ONE

Water. Roiling. Icy. Water so cold you can’t talk, you can’t scream, you can hardly breathe. Dark. An arm around his neck. Someone propelling him through the water. A nasty smell. Snowflakes falling from the sky. A cold wind. Out of the water. Freezing. Time to sleep.

Frank? Talk to me. This is your old buddy, Linc…Lincoln McGowan.

Frank Jackson’s dark eyes stared at McGowan without a hint of recognition.

The doctor on the opposite side of Frank’s hospital bed closely assessed Frank’s respiratory rate as well as his chest movements. She glanced at the monitor above his bed and said to McGowan, He’s been off the ventilator and breathing on his own for an hour now. All of his vitals are good. I would imagine his primary problem will be the cobwebs in his head. Talk to him about some shared times. That might get him to remember you. Be advised, he has been in a coma for several weeks. Don’t expect a miracle. She pulled a pen from her side pocket and jotted a note in Jackson’s patient chart.

McGowan shifted his weight and leaned on the bed rails. He smiled and said, You gave us a scare, you big dope. Do you know how hard it is for an old guy like me to drag your carcass out of the water?

Frank’s gaze shifted between Linc and the doctor.
