Janet Lee’s Dedication
Dedicated to my nan Lottie Eugene Morris, who loved me unconditionally and made sure I had an education.
Lorraine Butler’s Dedication
My darling boys in spirit, and to my loving husband Stewart, and my daughter Victoria - without whom I would not have survived.
Foreword
This book has brought back many memories for me, some of which I did not reckon on revisiting at any time.
But that is spirit - they are the reason for this book ever being written, and I must repay them with gratitude and love for allowing me this privilege.
I am just a small part of the picture - and were it not for my boys Neil, Gareth and Shawn going to spirit, there would be no book. I am proud of them. Their choice in going to the world of spirit so early in their lives has given me great pain and sadness; but if all this means that others will not suffer so much, then I am glad I have lived through it.
I would like to thank my husband, Stewart, for his love and support. I know it has been quite a journey for him living with me, both as a sad, grieving mum and as a medium. I do pray he has an easier pathway when he goes to spirit.
It has not been easy for my daughter Vicky whose three brothers have passed over. But I know that having spirit with me has helped save her too. My life has been an emotional roller coaster. But watch this space as this journey is just beginning.
Read this book if you have lived, or are living with, grief and pain. Take comfort that the world around us - the spirit world - does exist for us all. If a mere body like me can be saved and helped, then there is hope for every one of us in this world.
God bless all of you who have helped me. Love and light.

Introduction
Let me make this absolutely clear. Mediums scare the hell out of me, and before I met ‘Creepy Lorraine’ (as I call her) I would not go within ten paces of them.
I work as a reporter on a local paper. A couple of years before writing this book, the phone rang at work. Any of us could have answered it, but it was me.
The woman introduced herself as Lorraine Butler. She was a medium, she said, and she was going to put in some appearances locally.
That sounds interesting. Perhaps you’d like to call in at the office for an interview,
I suggested - putting my fears aside for the sake of professionalism you see.
We arranged a time and date.
That was the sum total of our conversation.
Lorraine arrived a few days later and we held the interview in a small meeting room at the office.
I asked the questions you would expect: when she first realised, what were her first experiences etc.
We were in mid flow when she just blurted out: Your dad’s here you know.
It’s a trifle unnerving to say the least when someone tells you your dad’s in the room - and he died a few years ago.
How did she know my dad had died anyway? It would be a bit cruel to take a lucky guess with a 50 per cent chance of getting it wrong.
Trying to look unruffled I soldiered on with the interview, but she insisted my dad was there.
What followed was the most extraordinary impromptu reading.
She said my grandad, grandmother, George and Fred were also there. (George is my grandad and uncle’s name. Fred is a friend who committed suicide).
She said dad showed her opening up his chest. He had a heart problem and was in hospital. She could see a clinical situation. It was a quick passing, she said. Dad wasn’t that old.
(My beloved dad died during a heart operation which was intended to give him a better quality of life. He was in his early 70s).
She gave the name ‘Thomas - Tom’ (my first grandchild had just been born. Thomas is on his birth certificate, but he is called Tom).
She said she could see lots of blue balloons with ribbons. (The front window of my daughter-in-law’s house was even then festooned with blue balloons).
She said dad was with Lily - his friend with poorly legs. They were looking after each other.
(Dad’s best friend was Lily. She had ulcerated legs and he often visited her at home and in hospital).
She looked puzzled. Dad was telling her the words ‘travel’ and ‘pubs’.
Did your dad travel around pubs?
she asked.
He worked at two pubs - one of which was the Traveller’s Rest,
I replied.
She mentioned Rose (dad’s former neighbour).
She said I’d achieved what I set out to do, although it had been a struggle (I always wanted to be a reporter - and yes it was).
She said dad sent his love to mum, though she sensed some split (they were divorced, but still kept in touch).
Anyway - how did she know mum was still alive?
She said dad was frustrated because he could not get up and do things (true).
She started to say, but could not finish: There are many routes to…
then There are many ways to…
(On dad’s grave there are the words ‘In my Father’s house there are many mansions’).
There were also other references to my home life, too personal to include. Sorry, you’ll just have to trust me. But they were spot on.
Somehow, despite being seriously spooked I carried on the interview.
It it was true, that dad really was there, how wonderful was that?
But I thought to myself if dad was really here, there is no way he would show up and not mention my brother John who lived at home with him.
Your dad’s here again,
she said chirpily. He says to tell you he’s with Emily and Edward.
These were the only two names I did not recognise.
Oh and he says give his love to John.
Aaaaaarrrggghhh.
I wonder if mediums realise the full impact of what they say.
Her words went round and round in my head for the rest of the day and into the night.
By midnight I still couldn’t sleep. Then suddenly, I remembered, several years ago dad and I had drawn up a family tree. It was just scribble on a tatty bit of paper - but I knew exactly where it was.
I got up, found the paper, then sat on the stairs at midnight cursing myself for being so daft.
I found dad’s name and looked above it.
Emily and Edward.
The next day I rang my mum and brother - to pass on dad’s love.
I don’t offer an opinion in this book.
All I do is faithfully reproduce what I have witnessed.
As if the above reading was not enough, having met Lorraine now on numerous occasions she continues to floor me with information.
I have deliberately withheld information from her, and for the sake of the integrity of the book, have not offered her any information about myself.
Yet she has named virtually every member of my family.
When we decided to start the book I spent three days in a caravan in Wales with Lorraine - a scary prospect indeed.
Yet, she is outspoken, funny, and the kind of person I could be great friends with if she wasn’t so creepy.
I would hear her talking in her bedroom at night in the caravan.
Are you talking to ghosts?
I’d yell.
No - I’m on the phone!
she’d reply.
I have taken friends and family to see Lorraine at her various demonstrations and she continues to amaze me.
A couple of years ago I went to observe her at a spiritualist church.
