Some say that when you do something so bad that the Devil himself will send death to your door. As legend tells it, the Grim Reaper is the Devil’s bounty hunter and retrieves all of the lost souls, but there are other stories that speak another name...Grynn. I’m not sure if it is the same monster or if it’s a demon that spawned from the depths of Hell to compete with the Grim. One thing I know for sure is, I will for always be scared to speak its name.
It all started back in the year of nineteen eighty-two for me. I still remember that day like yesterday. My family and I lived in a small white one story house. It had maroon shutters around each window with a big weather vane right on top. We had what I guess you would say a small farm. There was a small chicken coop about twenty yards from our front door with a small door that my dad made from an old pallet. My dad raised the chickens for their eggs. We also had a small garden that we planted squash, cucumbers, lettuce, peppers, okra, onion and tomatoes in. Each row reached about ten yards long and we had put up a chain link fence around it so the rodents couldn’t get in.
I used to sit outside and watch my dad pretend he had a green thumb when it came to harvesting our garden. His brown eyes would seem like they shimmered in the sun when he worked out there. His long bold half shaven face always appeared a little rugged and looked as if it had lost the sight of a razor. He towered me by almost two feet when I stood next to him and his shoulders were so broad that I could fit three of me between his arms.
My brother Phelix was seventeen years old, he was tall dark and handsome and looked just like Dad without the broadness; and unfortunately quite the trouble maker. He started
