About this ebook

Chess960 or Fischer Random Chess is a variant of chess invented by the World Chess Champion Bobby Fischer, presented to the public on June 1996 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Some people love Chess960, some don’t but it is a fact that Chess960 is becoming more popular. In my opinion, this is due to the rapid development of computer programs that could defeat even the World Chess Champions. If you are playing chess online, you probably asked yourself many times if you are playing with a human player or with a chess engine.

I don’t believe Chess960 will replace standard chess, but its popularity will continue to grow accordingly to the number of the chess player who like creativity more than studying chess patterns and themes.

In an interview when GM Hikaru Nakamura was asked about Chess 960, he answered:

"I think chess960 is great as it is simply pure intuition and understanding without theory or computers. In my opinion, a lot depends on the trends. For example, at the moment, everyone is playing the Berlin Defense which has severely reduced the number of games with 1.e4 If this trend of attempting to "kill" the excitement continues, it is hard to believe 960 won't take over at some point. However, if we start seeing a lot of deep preparation and exciting games in the Najdorf or Dragon, then I think the scope of normal chess will continue for a very long time."
