How to Train Your Pit Bull (Limited Edition) - Victoria Lancer

    INTRODUCTION

Pit Bulls have given wonderful years of special companionship to many owners, so a decision to bring a new Pit Bull into your family as a pet can be one of the best decisions you can made.  From infancy to maturity, Pit Bulls develop a unique bond with their owners. And because of their obscured status in society, as the owner you will see things in your friend like kindness, companionship and silliness that others will not see.  But for this bond to strengthen, a few procedures will have to be established within your home, based on obedience. Training your Pit Bull throughout its life will lead to proper integration and interactions with your family members and friends.

This book is a needed resource in making sure your Pit Bull is adequately trained and listens to the requests that you ask of it. Inside you will find answers to many questions you will have about the process of training your Pit Bull, how to get started, and what to do if you run into a roadblock. Through this work, the author’s wish is that you understand the psychology of your Pit Bull and how their mind functions during the learning process.  By understanding this simple training process you will hopefully be more appreciative of the complicated learning processes going on.  And this knowledge will make it easier for you to adjust to unexpected scenarios and to teach your dog differences in desired and undesired behaviors.

With this ‘inside out’ insight into dog training that other resources scarcely offer - the causal factors producing behaviors - you are sure to make greater strides in progress when it is time to train your Pit Bull.  The top-down approach described within covers all aspects of their behavior and is applicable to virtually every scenario you will encounter as an owner.  Enjoy the process of training your Pit Bull, as it is a very rewarding experience the first time he or she responds to a command. And with this book to help you, the hope is that you will be a proud owner of a gentle, well-behaved companion for years.

CHAPTER 1 – PIT BULL - THE MALIGNED BREED

Pity the poor Pit Bull owner whose puppy is so often maligned by the narrow-minded public.  The owner, seeing a warm, loving companion with a heart of gold, often views their dog through a lens much different than the outsider.

Pit Bulls live with an unfortunate monkey on their back - they have the unfortunate stigma of a bad reputation.  The general public fears the Pit Bull because of the not infrequent, sometimes misguided media reports of a dog attack by a Pit Bull.  Because of these media reports, Pit Bulls are seen as a risky breed for a family to own, especially since they have a reputation of attacking children.  This reputation could not be further from the truth.  Pit Bulls are as sweet, loving and friendly as any other breed. So why should they be the only breed to carry such a tarnished reputation in the entire dog kingdom?

No doubt during your ownership of your Pit Bull you have (or will) hear stories from friends about how they knew a guy who was viciously bitten by a neighbor’s Pit Bull, or something of the sort.  These word of mouth claims of attacks are damaging to the reputation of Pit Bulls everywhere because they impact us on a personal level.  If your friend knows someone who was fiercely attacked for no reason, what is to stop a Pit Bull from attacking me?

The problem with these stories is that they often lack the complete details or are changed to leave out some relevant information.  If a person was trespassing on a neighbor’s yard and was bitten, or was provoking the dog by teasing him or purposely frustrating him, then it is understandable that the Pit Bull defended his territory, especially if his owner had trained
