Ambassador Rajiv K Bhatia
Ambassador Rajiv K. Bhatia served as the Director General of the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) from June 2012 to June 2015. He joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in July 1972. In his diplomatic career spanning over thirty-seven years, he served with distinction as India’s Ambassador or High Commissioner in four countries—Kenya, Myanmar, Mexico and South Africa—and held various positions in other diplomatic missions as well as the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. Since his retirement in 2009, Ambassador Bhatia has been a proactive and productive member of India’s strategic community. Known for his intellectual disposition, he enjoys writing and speaking on a wide range of foreign policy-related issues. He has published 150 articles on international affairs and diplomacy in India’s national dailies, journals and periodicals and delivered lectures at various Track-II dialogue platforms, Foreign Service Institute, National Defence College, universities and other institutions in India and abroad. He is the author of the book India-Myanmar Relations: Changing Contours, which has been published by Routledge, Taylor and Francis Group in collaboration with the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, Singapore.
