About this ebook

Penelope's life revolves around cooking and keeping her Red Carpet Catering business afloat, and she's just landed a hearty new job for her and her staff.

Just when Penelope thinks life couldn’t be sweeter, a panicked late-night phone call from Max, her best friend’s brother, ends abruptly with shots fired on his end.

The next morning, a handsome model and club promoter turns up dead, and when the police serve up Max as their main suspect, Penelope risks it all to prove his innocence (and find him before the police do).

With her relationship as sturdy as a soup sandwich and her own life being threatened, it’s up to Penelope to find the truth before anyone else is eighty-sixed.

This is the third book in the A Red Carpet Catering Mystery series written by Shawn Reilly Simmons. This book can be read as a standalone, as well as any of the others. Penelope is a great cook and since she started her Red Carpet Catering she works hard at making her business a success. Unfortunately, that means sometimes taking jobs that do not turn out as expected. In this book, most of the action occurs off the set as there is no one in the movie involved in the murder/crime in this book. After a night on the town in New York with Joey, her boysfriend, Penelope receives a panicked late-night phone call from Max, her best friend’s brother. While trying to talk to him, she hears gunshots and then the call is cut off. Joey and Penelope figure out where Max was when he called and rush to the modelling agency. When the police arrive at the business, and find a handsome, model/club promoter dead, they handcuff both Joey and Penelope until they sort things out. , ends abruptly with shots fired on his end. As the investigation takes place, the police serve up Max as their main suspect, Penelope risks it all to prove his innocence, including her relationship to Joey who has gone back to New Jersey in a huff. With Penelope investigating the murder, she ends up getting herself in some tricky situations and almost loses the catering job she is working on. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. I like the relationship between Penelope and Joey, it is very realistic. The interactions between the main characters in these books shows what a great relationship friends and "chosen family" can have. The investigating that Penelope does sometimes goes a little too far and the police can be a little too accommodating, but overall, the books are quite realistic. This book takes a twist that was totally unexpected but added another dimension to the story that was quite intriguing. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a cozy mystery.I received a copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
