About this ebook
When teenage sisters, Chione and Maibe practice the mysterious art of divination in ancient Egypt, a fight for survival ensues between a stranger and their uncle Haafiz, after a Pharaoh's tomb is found.
Full of character and different in their own way, twin sisters Chione and Maibe revel in each−others company until a reading of the sticks forecasts a murder.
Fostered by her uncle, Haafiz, Chione is determined not to fail him when he is abducted from their home in the Valley of the Kings. She prays to Isis to calm her fears and to keep her mother's spirit close...

I was born in London, England, and raised in the north in a town called, St. Helens, where I went to Cowley High school. I have worked as a market trader and rented properties in my time, as well as working in a successful family business. My husband serves in the Royal Air Force, and is away often, so I like to write to create something good in my spare time. I currently live in Hampshire, with our son, Ethan, and enjoy our family time as much as possible. I joined a writing group in Salisbury, run by Jayne Woodhouse, a playwright, who has achieved great success with her plays in England. Jayne has been prolific to my writing success, and has taught me discipline in my work ethic, as well as being a good friend. I was published with the Salisbury Writers Circle in 2016, in a 'Bee Creative' competition for a short story which was inspired by an ancient churchyard in Salisbury city centre, where the anthology is now on permanent display. My interest in the Thoth Tarot, by Aleister Crowley inspired me to write The Fool, as a way of showing others how the system works. I am currently working on my next novel in the series called The Magician, although it might take some time to write. I hope you enjoy my novel, and hanker after more books soon! - Thanks for reading. THE JUSTICE OF RE.
The valley at Deir el-Medina filtered into many shades of red as the sun set over the land of Egypt. Eagles flew high and tall grasses swayed in the hot breeze. An arid desert stretched as far as the eye could see and everything was calm, while wisps of smoke rose from a settlement of whitewashed houses hidden between the mountains on the West Bank of the river Nile, where a tribe of artisan tomb builders loyal to Pharaoh Rameses the Second resided.
Chione inhaled the dry scent of earth as she glimpsed the sunset. She turned from the scene to look at a series of rough depictions she had drawn in the sand and was satisfied with their resemblance to the tarot of old. Her uncle, Haafiz fostered her and her sister with her aunt, Amunet who had taught her the art of divination after her mother died over a year ago. Chione smiled at the reassurance Amunet gave her: that by using the sticks she would be able to communicate with her mother's spirit.
Chione’s twin, Maibe stirred from her seating position on a lump of limestone. Wisps of long black hair straggled to her face and she tucked them in her plats, not daring to miss a thing.
Chione closed her eyes and said a prayer to the goddess Isis while dancing. 'Come to me, mother of magic, show me the way. Which path must I walk upon towards my future? May your guidance be clear and your replenishing milk be forever in my belly.' She held the sticks aloft, twirled and threw them to the ground, convinced that the goddess Isis would divine her future. Maibe’s beliefs were not so strong, nevertheless she peered at the layout and waited for Chione's reaction. Chione usually discussed her interpretation of the reading from the moment the sticks landed, today however, she appeared perplexed.
Maibe sat forward. 'What does the reading say?' she asked. When Chione said nothing Maibe walked over to where she stood but Chione raised her hand.
'Something isn't right,’ she said as she looked at the fifth stick. It pointed to a stooped figure of a man. She frowned and studied the whole layout.
'It mustn’t be,’ Maibe said. ‘You've usually told me the reading by now.'
'This can't be right.' Chione insisted as she walked around the pictures, careful not to disturb them. 'I've never had such a negative display and the stooped man being indicated in the reading is a rarity.' She looked at Maibe. 'Will you throw the sticks and I'll look at them again once you're done? Ask mother Isis to work her magic so I can be sure of what she is telling me.'
Maibe looked dubious as she folded her arms. 'I want to understand
