The Renal Diet Cookbook - Raymond James

    reading.

    Understanding Kidney Disease

The first victory you would encounter is simply knowing your health status. Even after being diagnosed with CKD does not mean the end of life. All that is required is a change of lifestyle and change of diet. At the early stage of the CKD diagnosis, you have so many options to follow with a view to prolonging the function of your kidney.

    Functions of the Kidneys

The kidneys, bean-shaped, can be located in the center of your back, below the rib cage, on the right and left of the spine. Their major functions are:

    1. Cleaning of waste materials from the blood.

    2. Regulation of the blood pressure.

    3. Making of red blood cell by helping to stimulate the bone marrow.

    4. Removing extra water from the body.

    5. Control of the rate of phosphorus and calcium absorbed and excreted.

When the kidneys still perform the above functions, it means they are healthy, but anyone that has the chronic kidney disease cannot enjoy the above kidney functions, yet longevity and healthy life are still very possible even with the CKD.
