Finn in involved in a car accident involving a massive dog which is hit and runs off. He later searches for the dog and eventually finds it's hiding place. Finn discovers that the injured animal is actually a wolf who has escaped from a circus that Finn recently attended. He determines to save the wolf, Lupa, and takes her to the vet to be treated. The vet bill drains all the savings he has for his teams overseas rugby trip. As well as hiding Lupa, Finn must deal with the sinister circus clown, Cackles, who was her cruel tormentor at the circus, figure out how he is going to be able to afford Lupa's large food bill, hide Lupa from both his solo mum and his Nana who lives with them, suffers from alzheimer's, and whose behaviour is becoming increasingly odd.Tauranga author Susan Brocker has written an appealing and entertaining story about the lengths one boy will go to to save and protect an animal. The characters are lively and entertaining. Another great read from a wonderful author.

Finn sees a car hit an enormous dog and sets off to find the animal that has run off. What he discovers is a wolf not a dog – an escapee from a circus that Finn recently attended. Finn becomes determined to save the wolf and make sure she isn’t returned to the circus but how will be able to afford the vet’s bills and the food . . . and what will his mother say? And then the creepy clown from the circus turns up . . . Susan Brooker has written another totally engaging animal book that covers all the bases – an animal story, an adventure story and a mystery with a likeable boy, a realistic mother, a quirky grandmother and a scary (but not too scary) villain. This book would suit readers aged 10 and up.
