About this ebook
A “fascinating” and comprehensive account of the trial of Nazi war criminals following World War II (The New York Times).
For ten months, from November 1945 to September 1946, an International Military Tribunal methodically tried twenty-two major figures in the Nazi hierarchy for their war crimes, including Hermann Goering, Rudolf Hess, Albert Speer, and Martin Bormann. Each participant is vividly drawn—from the icy coolness of Goering (who would commit suicide in his cell after being found guilty) to the whimpering of Security Chief Erns Kaltenbrunner and Nazi Foreign Minister Joachim von Ribbentrop to the professionalism of American prosecutor Robert H. Jackson. The Nuremberg Trial brilliantly recreates the proceedings and offers a reasoned, often profound, examination of the processes that created international law, standards that still guide prosecuting crimes against humanity to this day.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A classic book that describes how the major Nazi war criminals were apprehended, how the war tribunal was assembled, the testimony, and the verdict.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I could not urge anyone enough to buy this book - an engrossing tale of the trials and the participants. I found the political and legal arguments concerning the moral authority of the court very interesting and some of the remarks attributed to the chief gaoler, Col Andrus, hilarious. Perhaps the best aspect of the book's coverage is the description of the relationships between the various defendants and those of the captives and their lawyers. The political wrangling between the four powers is also well covered.I am very disappointed that this appears to be the first review of this book, because it is fantastic. Anyone with even the slightest interest in WW2 really should read this. I would very much like the authors to consider a second, follow-up title considering the trials and fate of many of the lower ranking SS men etc, about which, little has been written.
