Little Elliot and his best friend Mouse return in this fourth picture-book devoted to their adventures, heading to the country for a holiday when New York becomes too noisy, crowded, and overwhelming. They enjoy the quiet beauty of autumn in the country, playing hide-and-seek in the fields and forest, and making a crowd of new friends when they happen upon a farmhouse. As someone who currently lives in New York City, but who grew up in the rolling hills of Westchester County, north of the city, I found Little Elliot, Fall Friends full of pleasant associations, both to my childhood and to my current circumstances. I enjoyed the view of Grand Central Station that we are given, and also found the light-filled autumn scenery of the country very appealing. The story here is full of the friendship and sense of fun that made previous Little Elliot books so winsome, while the artwork manages to be both cute and beautiful (not the same thing at all!). Recommended to all fans of the previous books about this polkadotted elephant and his murine friend, as well as to those looking for fun new stories for fall.
