A solid introduction to the world of tiger sharks, with engaging writing and plenty of photographs. The author does a nice job of describing the tiger shark's physical appearance, life cycle, and migratory routes, and thoughtfully discusses threats from humans. Overall, she stays away from sensationalistic writing, although the statement "Tiger sharks have attacked about 100 people. At least 30 of them were killed." is vague (attacked over what kind of time frame? 20 years? 100 years? How long have records been kept?). The vocabulary is rich, with words that are defined in the glossary clearly marked. Even children who consider themselves shark experts may discover a word or two they didn't know (oviviparous; ampullae of Lorenzini). Examples of maps, diagrams, charts, and captions are incorporated into the main text nicely. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5My 6 year old loved this book. He learned a lot of facts and new vocabulary words. He loves using the word ovoviviparous!
