About About Author
Chapter 1
Asha ran out of the house, they were arguing again, this time about a girl who keeps calling John. Her ears could bleed from the constant yelling, so she decided to go to her favorite place to clear her head that was full of confusion and anger. Asha’s heart ached for her mom because she deserves better than John treats her. Asha sat on the bench taking in the fresh air as she tilted her head back and closed her eyes for a minute, letting the spring breeze flow over her. Asha did poses she learned in karate class. She remembered begging her parentsUnfortunately, but John said no. He was her dad, but she never called him daddy. Unfortunately, she got her eyes from him her eyes were hazel. She got everything else from her mom, jet black hair and a coke bottle shape, and brown skin. John was dark but Asha and her mom could be twins but life has been rough on her so, it made her look old. Her mom secretly enrolled her but, that was a year ago. She thought about the battle in karate class coming up against Trina. Trina looked like a man, blond hair and stern face. Asha couldn’t remember seeing her ever smile. Asha wasn’t scared of her but she trained to fight a man.
Asha tried to clear her mind as she did the karate poses and then she ran the trail. Afterwards she went home. A soccer ball hit her foot when she got in front of her house, and her neighbor came running out. Charles was his name. He was eighteen too, and he lived near Asha for five years. Thank you
Charles says. No problem,
Asha replied. Their hands brush as she hands him the ball. He averted his gaze and said, see ya later.
Bye
, she says with a smile. Charles ran back to his yard, Asha looked him up and down. She went from his blond hair to his strong ankles. Asha snapped out of it and went in the house
, where John was standing, as soon as she ran in. I hope you not getting ideas .
Asha rolled her eyes and went upstairs, but John grabbed her arm, and she grimaced from the pain. He grabbed her so tight. John looked at her with angry eyes. She managed to shake him off and ran upstairs. Asha pulled up her shirt and looked at her arm. She saw an angry handprint on her arm and it stung. Asha heard clinging downstairs, and a voice saying, "Your so clumsy", so she went downstairs but only saw John watching TV and flipping through the channels. Asha looked in the kitchen and saw mom picking up forks and spoons. Asha went to help. Tears dropped on the kitchen floor. It was an accident.
I didn’t mean to drop them." Her hands shook while picking up the forks and spoons. It is ok mom; it happens
. Sandra’s eyes darted to the living room. Thanks baby,
she said while laying her hand on my cheek and looking into my hazel eyes.
John came into the kitchen and said, She got it.
Asha ignored him and continued picking up the forks and spoons. Sandra quickly dropped her hands, looked at the floor and picked up the forks and spoons. They finished and Asha went to her room.
She couldn’t stop thinking about her mom crying, it was just an accident, but she heard John call her clumsy so that probably was it. He always talks to her like that, and he never
