Description

Samahria has been selling on eBay since September 2014. She was 6 months pregnant looking to earn some extra cash. Once her baby was born and she had to return back to work, she decided that she could not leave her baby with anyone. She kicked it up a notch and eventually left her full-time job to sell on eBay and Amazon full-time. Interesting Notes Samahria had set a date when to quit her corporate job. She completed her action items but felt terrified to pull the trigger. Her friend helped her walk through the process and she was able to quit. She started off selling on Amazon. She discovered early on that there were a lot of brand restrictions on Amazon. She needed to sell her items. It was then that she found eBay. A seller has to get an approval to sell in a certain category and brand on Amazon. Whereas, a seller can sell anything on eBay. She loves eBay because she has more control over the customers and the process. She still sells on Amazon, but she enjoys selling on eBay. She sources her eBay products from yard sales and thrift stores. She loves to hit yard sales on Fridays and Saturdays. She spends the whole day sourcing. A yard sale is a sale outside of the people's home. People want to get rid of their stuff thus the sale. When she first started out, she watched YouTube videos to learn what items she needs to look for when sourcing. She tried different things. Her first addiction is coffee mugs. She would pick up odd coffee mugs whenever she is in yard sales. Then she fell in love with stuffed animals and plush toys. She gets attracted to toys because she has three kids. Her kids tell her what is hot. She loves to create kids bundle. She also looks for toy's accessories. A lot of times people are fond of toys, but not accessories that come with it like Barbie doll clothes and shoes. Samahria involves her kids in her eBay business. They help her with the listing process and inventory management. Her 12-year old son takes pictures for her. Her 10-year old daughter does some research. She helps her daughter create a draft. After which, Samarhia will edit the pricing and clean up the listings. There are times when Samarhia goes sourcing and takes her kids with her. They help her find items. Most of Samahria's plush items average to $11 mark. But she triples the price up to the range of $40 to $60. A few months ago, she found a little Monster plush at a Goodwill outlet. It was rare and so ugly. She does not want to buy it. But something tells her to look it up and see what it is selling for. She bought it for a dollar and sold it for $60. At the time of this interview, she sold a vintage Lion King plush. She bought it from Goodwill for $0.25 and sold it for $40. At present, she has 400 plush items in stock. Most of her items are Buy It Now. Only a handful are Best Offer. She keeps her plush items in poly bags or poly mailer. Most are under 15 ounces, so it is inexpensive to ship. It is so easy to get the items from point A to point B without getting damaged. Samarhia used to have a small closet where she kept all her items in. Every time something would sell she had to pull everything out of the closet to find the item. There were times when she could not locate the item. In those times, she would buy the item from another seller. Or, she would cancel the order which affected her seller rating/ranking. Now, she works in a 500 sq. ft garage with shelves and bins. She runs sales every day. She tried 7% off, 25% off, 50% off, and 60% off. Her sweet spot is 25% off. One can schedule sales in advance. She uses Promoted Listings and gives Free Shipping. She also uses eBay's Global Shipping program. Samarhia spends 20 hours a week for her eBay business. She chose stuffed animals and plush toys as her niche because they are easy and inexpensive to source and ship. Samarhia sees herself running independently from eBay and other platforms that she is using now. So, she is now working on creating an individual site for her stuffe
