The problem
The unsightly lawn and very uneven surface in their backyard wasn’t conducive to outdoor entertainment or for children playing, say Morné and Jeanne Strauss of their Johannesburg garden. “The lawn had quite a slope running up to the boundary wall and in the middle there was a bed with a rock garden that made the space look small,” explains Jeanne. “It wasn’t really suitable for younger children who like to run, play and kick a ball.”
