    Wallflower - Fatima AlGhawas AlZaabi

    @fatima.g.alz

    Baby Girl

I used to get mad at being called different

I used to close my eyes and cry to my mother

    I felt like I had a voice, but I couldn't talk

    Clipped wings,

    Teary eyed,

Baby girl too young to see

The older I got, I swore to never be like them

I was done biting my own tongue

I finally found myself in a galaxy of words

    A Generation of Misfits

Don’t tell me that some people aren't worth saving

The outside world has made us believe that we don't belong, that we are all wrong answers

    Errors in history

They don’t realize that we are all uprooted leaves fallen from the same tree, trying to figure this place out

People say things like, these kids have no future

They don’t see how hard it is to be ourselves amid a sea of judgment

    We aren't faded echoes

Just silenced screams trying to come out

Trying to choose what makes us happy

    All Hail

Time runs faster once you're aware of it

It feels like I just woke up

Awake from a slumber caused by all those sleepless nights

    Wasted time and wasted youth

    Annoyed by the world

    Don't mess with me

The mistress of the night is here

    6:27 PM

In the first birth of autumn, the mist showers from the heavens above sobered the fresh cut grass beneath our toes

It was as though in moments like these we truly found our purpose

Driving around town, reaching the city’s border, just to look at the sunset. We never meant any harm, although our music told a different story

Somehow imagining a new dawn brought comfort to our drawn day

Looking over the horizon, surpassing our boundaries was what brought us together

No Queens Street mafia was like us

High school dropouts, living in Cadillacs, driving around in search of hope

You see, nobody ever leaves this place behind

    Drive Down Memory Lane

Would you come see me if I told you I’m not who you once knew?

I can see that there is something on your mind

I smell the cheap cigarettes on your breath

I guess, you couldn’t tell me

You just broke everything on your way out

You ran away from your problems as per usual

    Dead Ends
