About this ebook

Discover Two-by-Two Crochet, where two colors of yarn are crocheted into textured stitches using only a 2 row/round repeat. Each pattern in the book begins with a setup row to get the pattern started, then you simply work the 2-row/round repeat over and over. The main sections of all projects are created holding 2 different color stands of yarn together throughout. When working the single-color textured stitches, one color will be dropped to the back of the work until the last step, then both yarns will be used to finish the stitch. Includes instructions for 8 projects: 2 afghans, 1 baby afghan, an ear warmer, a lady's cap in 2 sizes, a reversible kid's cap in 5 sizes, a scarf, and an amazing ruana.

    Guide

    Introduction

Welcome to Two-by-Two Crochet—a place where two colors of yarn are crocheted into textured stitches using only a two-row/round repeat.

2 Colors: The main sections of all the projects in this book are created holding two strands of yarn, one strand of each color, together throughout. The two colors held together create the marled background effect. When working the single-color textured stitches, one color will be dropped to the back of the work, the texture stitch will be crocheted up to the last step with a single color, then both yarns will be used to finish the stitch. The directions will always specify if only one color is to be used and when the second color is to be added back.

2 Rows: For each pattern in the book you will be given one or two Setup rows to get the pattern started. Then you simply work the 2-Row/Round Repeat over and over. Edging rows/rounds are given to complete your project.

I hope you have as much fun playing with these stitches as I did.

    Happy Crocheting!

    A Little Information

    Crossing Cables

What do all the letters and numbers mean?

    Example: W-6stFpTrtrLX

    1. The letter before the dash tells you what color to use: W for white, C for cream, etc.

    2. The number right after the dash followed by st tells how many stitches are involved in crossing the cables. If it makes it easier to keep track you can place a stitch marker in the first stitch and in the last stitch. In the example above it reads 6st so you would place a marker in the first stitch to the left and in the sixth stitch to the left.

    3. The next two letters will either be Fp for front post or Bp for back post. This tells you if you are working a front post stitch or a back post stitch.

    4. The following two to four letters will tell you the height of the stitch you are working: Hdc for half double crochet, Dc for double crochet, Tr for treble, Dtr for double treble, or Trtr for triple treble.

    5. The next letter will be L for left or R for right. When crossing cables, if the stitches that cross on top start at the top left and go to the bottom right, it is called a left cross; if the stitches that cross on top start at the top right and go to the bottom left, it is called a right cross.

    6. The next letter will be an X. This tells you that you will be crossing the cable stitches.

    7. The X is usually the last letter in the sequence; however, sometimes a crossing cable has an extra word after the X—for example, the word Puff or Split or Join. When this occurs, it means that something extra is incorporated into the cross.

Always read and follow stitch directions when working Special Stitches.
