Dimensions of Wellness
Wellness
Wellness is a whole lot more than just physical health, exercise and nutrition. It is a complete integration of internal, intellectual, emotional, physical, social, environmental, and occupational wellness. Each of these dimensions act and interact in ways that contribute to our own quality of life.
Internal Wellness
Is our ability to establish harmony, peace and tranquility within our lives. It is our ability to develop congruence between values and actions and to come to a realization of a common purpose that binds creation together and contributes to our Internal Wellness.
Internal Wellness is a personal matter which involves values and beliefs that provide a purpose in our lives. Different individuals have different views of what internal wellness is, it is generally considered to be the search for meaning and purpose in human existence, leading us to strive for a state of harmony with ourselves and others while working to balance inner needs with the rest of the world.
Internal wellness follows the following tenets:
We should contemplate the meaning of life for ourselves and to be tolerant of the beliefs of others.
We should live each day in a way that is consistent with our values and beliefs.
Reaching Internal Wellness
It is very important for everyone to explore what they believe is their own sense of meaning and purpose.
The path to internal wellness involves meditation, thought transference's, and specific practices that support our connection to the Unified Whole.
When we have compassion, the capacity for love and forgiveness, altruism, joy, and fulfillment this assists us in enjoy our internal health. Our internal knowingness, values, principles, and morals define our internal nature.
When we are engaged in the process of internal wellness, we are willing and able to transcend ourselves in order to question the meaning and purpose in our life and the lives of others. In addition, we seek to find harmony between that which lies within and the social and physical forces that come from outside.
Are you engaged in the process of internal wellness?
Do you know your energetic identity?
Are you actively participating in a daily internal cultivation practice?
Do you set aside 2 hours of time each day for meditation and positive thought transference's?
Do you use upright positive principles and moral values to guide your decisions, feelings, communication and actions?

Are you accepting of the views and beliefs of others?
Do you set aside 2 hours of time for relaxation or positive entertainment in your day?
Do you use Internal Knowingness to materialize positive things in your life?

Intellectual Wellness
Is our ability to open our minds to new ideas and experiences that can be applied to personal decisions, group interaction and community betterment. The aspiration to learn new concepts, improve skills and seek challenges in pursuit of lifelong learning contributes to our Intellectual Wellness.
When we engage in creative and stimulating mental activities to expand our knowledge and skills we open ourselves to the potential for sharing our gifts with others.
An intellectually well person:
Cherishes mental growth and stimulation
Is involved in intellectual and cultural activities.
Is engaged in the exploration of new ideas and understandings.
Intellectual Wellness
A Intellectual wellness path allows us to explore issues related to problem solving, creativity, and learning as well as spending more time pursuing our personal interests, including reading books, magazines, and newspapers, while keeping abreast of current issues and ideas. As we develop our intellectual curiosity, we will actively strive to expand and challenge our mind with creative endeavors.
Intellectually well people are also curious and interested in the communities as well as the world around them.
Are you engaged in the process of intellectual wellness?
Do you actively create new ideas?
Do you read things that increases your knowledge?
Do you seek personal growth by learning new skills?
Do you seek to learn new skills or are you active in academic learning?
Do you participate in stimulating mental activities?

to any of these questions, it indicates that there is a need to improve the state of your intellectual wellness.
Emotional Wellness
Is our ability to understand ourselves and cope with the challenges life can bring. It is our ability to acknowledge and share positive feelings of aspiration, love, joy and happiness which contributes to our Emotional Wellness.
When we are emotionally well we are able to handle stress, and we are attentive to our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, whether positive or negative. Emotional Wellness is our ability to be aware of and accept our feelings, rather than deny them, have an optimistic approach to life, and enjoy life despite its occasional disappointments and frustrations.
When we are engaged in the process of emotional wellness, we are willing and able to:
Arrive at personal choices and decisions based upon the synthesis of feelings, thoughts, philosophies, and behavior.
Live and work independently while realizing the importance of seeking and appreciating the support and assistance of others.
Form interdependent relationships with others based upon a foundation of mutual commitment, trust and respect.
Take on challenges, take risks, and recognize conflict as being potentially healthy.
Manage our life in personally rewarding ways, and taking responsibility for our actions.
The Path to Emotional Wellness
The path to emotional wellness involves:
Having awareness of our thoughts and feelings.
Having and using a positive attitude.
Expressing our emotions in a suitable manner.
Being able to set priorities.
Accepting our mistakes and learning from them.
Are you engaged in the process of emotional wellness?
Are you able to maintain a harmonious balance of work, family, friends, and other obligations?
Are you completely free of all stress and anger in your life?
Are you able to make all decisions without stress and worry?
Are you able to set and manage all of your priorities in your life?
When you express emotions, moods and feelings are they always neutral or positive?
Do you express Unconditional Love to all?
Do you express compassion, love and kindness to all?
Are you always happy and joyful?

to any of these questions, it indicates that there is a need to improve the state of your emotional wellness.
Physical Wellness
Is our ability to maintain a healthy quality of life that allows us to get through our daily activities without undue fatigue or physical stress. It is our ability to recognize that our behaviors have a significant impact on our wellness and when we adopt healthful habits like: (Good Personal hygiene, a balanced diet, and exercise, etc.) while avoiding destructive habits like; (tobacco, drugs, alcohol, etc.) will lead us to optimal Physical Wellness.
Physical wellness involves aspects of life that are necessary to keep ourselves in top condition. Optimal physical wellness is developed through the combination of beneficial physical activities, exercise and healthy eating habits. Elemental components of physical wellness include: Personal Hygiene, Balanced Diet, Cultivation Practice, Cardiovascular Strength, Building Muscular Strength, Stamina, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy.
Physical wellness is also concerned with developing personal responsibility for our own health care. Developing physical wellness empowers us to be able to monitor our own vital signs and understand our body's warning signs. We will understand and appreciate the relationship between sound nutrition and how our body performs. The physical benefits of looking good and feeling terrific most often lead to the psychological benefits of enhanced self-esteem, self-control, determination and a sense of direction.
Are you engaged in the process of physical wellness?
Do you eat food that is healthy and nutritious?
Do you drink at least 3 - 4 liters of water a day?
Do you maintain a strict daily routine of personal hygiene and cleanliness?
Do you avoid using alcohol, drugs and tobacco products?
Do you avoid eating fast food and junk foods?
Do you get 6-8 hours of sleep at night?
Do you have an established daily exercise routine?
Do you actively walk or hike 2-3 times a week?
If you answered No
to any of these questions, it indicates that there is a need to improve the state of your physical wellness.
Social Wellness
Is our ability to relate to and connect with other people in our world. Our ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with family, friends and co-workers all contribute to our Social Wellness.
Social Wellness refers to our ability to interact with people around us. It involves using good communications skills, having meaningful relationships, respecting ourselves and others, and creating a support system that includes family members and friends.
Social wellness follows these tenets:
We should contribute to the common welfare of our community.
We should live in harmony with others and our environment.
Path to Social Wellness
When we are engaged in the process of social wellness, we see the value in living in harmony with our fellow human beings, seeking positive, interdependent relationships with others, and developing healthy behaviors.

Do you enjoy the time you spend with others?
Are your relationships with others positive and rewarding?
Do you have a positive and loving relationship with a partner that you are in love with?
Do you explore diversity by interacting with people of other cultures, backgrounds, and beliefs?

to any of these questions, it indicates that there is a need to improve the state of your social wellness.
Environmental Wellness
Is our ability to recognize our own responsibility for the quality of the air, the water and the land that surrounds us. The ability to make a positive impact on the quality of our environment, be it our homes, our communities or our planet contributes to our Environmental Wellness.
We may not think much about Environmental Wellness as part of an overall wellness plan, but our environment and how we feel about it can have a huge impact on the way we feel overall.
Environmental well-being includes trying to live in harmony with the Earth by understanding the impact of our interaction with nature and our personal environment, and taking action to protect the world around us.
Protecting ourselves from environmental hazards and minimizing the negative impact of our behavior on the environment are also central elements.
Leading a lifestyle that is respectful to our environment and minimizes any harm done to it is a critical part of environmental wellness. Examples of environmental threats include air pollution, ultraviolet radiation in the sunlight, chemicals, noise, water pollution, and second-hand smoke.
Achieving Environmental Wellness
Environmental wellness involves a number of different aspects of personal and societal responsibilities, including:
Are you engaged in the process of environmental wellness?
Are you aware of the earth's natural resources and their respective limits?
Do you Live a life accountable to environmental needs, both in the present and in the long-term?
Do you know the effects of your daily habits on the world around you?
Do you practice no waste – reuse - recycle?
If you see a safety hazard, do you take the steps to fix the problem?
Are you aware of your surroundings at all times?
Do you spend time in nature daily?
Do you make sure that you have a very clean and organized living environment?
Are you attuned to your environment?
Do you always honor, respect and protect the natural world?
Do you only use the natural resources that you need?
Is the property you live on wildlife friendly and Xeric?
You never harm or kill other life eg. people, animals, plants or insects?
When it comes to the natural environment do you practice, leave no trace?
If you answered No
to any of these questions, it indicates that there is a need to improve the state of your environmental wellness.
Sustainable Living is needed for Environmental Wellness
Sustainable living is a lifestyle that attempts to reduce an individual's or society's use of the Earth's natural resources and personal resources. Practitioners of sustainable living often attempt to reduce their carbon footprint by altering methods of transportation, energy consumption, and diet.
Practitioners of sustainable living aim to conduct their lives in ways that are consistent with sustainability, in natural balance and respectful of humanity's symbiotic relationship with the Earth's natural ecology and cycles. The practice and general philosophy of ecological living is highly interrelated with the overall principles of sustainable development.
Occupational Wellness
Is our ability to get personal fulfillment from our jobs or our chosen career fields while still maintaining balance in our lives. Our aspiration to contribute in our careers to make a positive impact on the organizations we work in and to society as a whole leads to Occupational Wellness.
Occupational Wellness is the ability to achieve a balance between work and leisure time, addressing workplace stress and building relationships with co-workers. It focuses on our search for a calling and involves exploring various career options and finding where we fit. Because what we do for a living encompasses so much of our time, it is important for our overall well-being to do what we love and love what we do. When people are doing what they were meant to do, they deepen their sense of meaning and purpose.
The Path to Occupational Wellness
The occupational dimension of wellness recognizes personal satisfaction and enrichment in our life through work. At the center of occupational wellness is the premise that occupational development is related to our attitude about our work.
