Close Quarter Goats
IT had been a sorry tale to tell. My last three hunts were in locations that had suffered horrendously reduced game numbers due to aerial baiting in the vicinity of properties I frequent. A sum total of one fox fell to my son shooting my 6.5 Creedmoor(CM) Mauser M18 at about 30 metres. Its fine quick handling nature and Morgan’sskill meant no mistakes.
My most recent hunt hit paydirt using the same rifle. The property is small and classic goat country and they were starting to filter back around the tops, necessitating stalks that began a thousand feet lower, requiring legs and lungs that are not what they used to be. This day was a solo hunt, when I choofed off carrying a banana and a water bottle as well as a Ridgeline mesh game meat bag, hopeful that the owner's report of "goats being around again" would result in some success.
