Interpretation
Bill Lopa has captured the essence of Positive Financial Karma with his dazzling painting of Wall Street. We see the bull and bear battling for control of the stock market, while Dan Geltrude rises upon scaffolding in deep meditation. Ultimately, the bull and bear will submit to the positive intention radiating through the fervent meditation of the Finance Guru.
Dedication
Four people above all others have had a profound impact on my life: my grandparents. They provided me with unconditional love, encouragement, protection – and great food. They sacrificed so much for my benefit and instilled in me the notion that all things are possible. There isn’t a day that passes when I don’t think of them. So it is with a heavy heart and deep gratitude that I dedicate this book to them.

At the moment when our paths cross again, only then will my grieving finally end.
Young people need something stable to hang on to — a culture connection, a sense of their own past, a hope for their own future. Most of all, they need what grandparents can give them.

Karma and Your Finances: The Basics
Introduction:
My Road to Karma
Aside from my years away at college, I have always resided in Nutley, New Jersey. More than anything else, I feel safe here. The majority of people in this community are Italian and Roman Catholic. Perhaps I only had to say Italian because being Catholic is a given for Italians. Although the town has become more ethnically diverse over the years, it still has a significant Italian-American presence.
While I have always identified strongly with my Italian heritage, I have never felt comfortable in church. In fact, growing up I fought my parents tooth and nail about going to church or religious study. Even as an adult, I never warmed up to the idea.
When my father died in 2006 after a year-long battle with melanoma, I searched for answers as to why it happened. I understand that cancer kills millions of people around the world each year. But why did it happen to him?
I believe it’s quite common for people to turn to their religious faith for answers after losing a loved one. But I never had a strong faith in anything religion-based and I instinctively knew that church wasn’t where I would find my answers. I wanted to find something that made sense to me. So it had to be logic-based, not religion- or faith-based.
Maybe it was just my father’s karma to die of cancer, I thought. That made some sense to me, even though I didn’t initially understand why. As I thought more about his death, these facts became clear:
• My father spent a lot of time in the sun;
• Sun exposure causes skin cancer;
• The doctors didn’t catch it in time;
• So, melanoma killed him.
In other words, there was cause and effect
related to his situation. I needed to understand this more, which ultimately led me to study Buddhism, where cause and effect is an integral part of the philosophy. I started by reading books. Then I sought out people with the most knowledge I could find to learn more.
There is a saying attributed to the Buddha which states, "When a student is ready, the teacher will appear." I have had the great fortune of being in the presence of, and receiving teachings from, two of the greatest Buddhist teachers in the world: His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, and the venerable Thich Nhat Hanh. In addition, I learned much from such teachers as Khyongla Rato Rinpoche, Thubten Zopa Rinpoche, Nicholas Vreeland and Elliot Negron Black (aka Ekesvara Shiva Baba). Each of them
