Sri Satyanarayana Vrata Katha
Greatness of Vrata:
First Adhyaaya
Once when all the sages such as Sanaka, Sanandana etc., residing in Naimisharanya enquired Suta Pauranika a solution to get rid of all the miseries of humankind, he narrated what was once narrated by Lord Vishnu Himself to Devarishi Narada. When Narada had posed a similar question to Lord Vishnu in Vaikuntha, Lord had narrated to Narada the greateness of Satyanarayana Puja – In the kaliyuga, the most efficacious observance is that of Satyanarayana Vrata. It is generally performed on Purnima or Ekadashi or on any auspicious day, surrounded by his near and dear, one should observe the Vrata, perform puja and offer as naivedya porridge made of Banana, wheat/Rice flour, ghee, Milk and Sugar, various eatables and varieties of fruits. Then he should listen from a learned elder the greatness of this Vrata. Thus in Kaliyuga all the miseries of a person can be removed.
Second Adhyaaya
Suta Pauranika continues.,

The Lord, who took pity on him, assumed the guise of an old man and advised the Brahmin to perform the Satyanarayana Vrata Puja. The Brahmin learnt the proper method and on the day appointed for Puja, he was lucky to get provisions in larger quantities. He performed the Puja with his near & dear ones and in due course of time, acquired prosperity and due to continuous performance of Vrata, he was bestowed with liberation.
Once a wood-cutter, who participated in the Brahmin’s Puja enquired the greatness of the observance. He learnt the method of Puja from the Brahmin and departed with a happy frame of mind after partaking the prasada. The woodcutter was lucky to get wood in adequate measure, and with the money acquired by its sale, performed
