    Fie, fie! Unknit that threatening unkind brow and dart not scornful glances from those eyes...

    Alessandra’s stormy dark eyes stared out at her wedding audience, embarking on her monologue as her peripheral vision nervously surveyed the little she could see of the real audience. The stage lights were too bright for her to see much beyond the first and second rows.

    Is he out there? Is he watching me right now?

    The last letter he had sent was particularly unnerving and Dennis had told her to call off the performance.

    I’m Kate, she snapped at her agent, applying mascara to her already long lashes. I can’t just not show to a performance.

    You do have an understudy, Dennis replied dryly.

    The people are not here to watch Samantha screw up lines. I have seen buskers do better Shakespeare than her.

    Dennis rolled his eyes but turned serious at the true subject matter.

    Alex, did you read what he –

    I have eyes, Dennis and yes, I am able to read, thank you. She wished he would go away. She wanted some time to meditate before curtain call and Dennis was blocking her chakra.

    Alex –

    Listen, I don’t pay you to give me advice, she told him coldly, spinning in her chair to stare at him. That is what I pay my life coach for.

    Dennis’ lips pursed into a fine line of defiance.

    You’re being foolish, he told her. But I suppose it wouldn’t be the first time. It may, however, be the last time. No need for a life coach if you’re dead, is there?

    His last sentence sent chills down her spine but Alessandra did not show her fear. She was a classically trained actress, after all.

    Are you sure you don’t act? Your flair for melodrama is fantastic!
