Hes looking forward to a relaxing evening reading with his grandkits, but a summer storm changes his plan. First, he smells the rain. Next, his dog friends report back that the river is rising. It looks like it is time for Otis and all his animal buddies to move to higher ground!
The groupa mismatch of best pals from cats and a dormouse to dogs and a ferretbegin their journey to the big rock, where theyll be safe. But the trip is anything but easy. Not only are they forced to wander through the storm, but they also must dodge falling tree limbs and cross dangerous human streets. In all the fuss, one of Otiss grandkits wanders off.
Even though aging Otis is injured, he sneaks away to save his beloved lost rabbit and embarks on a treacherous journey. What damage has the storm brought to their little forest, and how will he ever find his precious missing grandkit? Luckily, with the help of his friends, Otis learns that even an old, country rabbit can persevere with a little grit and determination.
Kerry Kellogg
Kerry Ann Kellogg is a first-grade teacher with twenty years of teaching experience. She earned her teaching degree at Keene State College where she minored in English. Her love for her pets and backyard critters inspired this book. She and her husband have two children. They all live in New Hampshire with Otis, Barnaby, and Patches.

Otis tried to catch up with his friends. No matter how fast he hopped in the wet grass, the wind kept him away from the group. He heard a loud crack nearby and knew something bad was about to happen. I wish I could say he was wrong. He cried out in such pain, even Patches could hear his yell.
Chapter 1
In the Garden
Otis breathed in the scent of nearby clover. His nose sniffed higher and higher as his whiskers twitched rhythmically. He was enjoying a warm July breeze in the raised-bed garden. You know the one under the stand of maple and cherry trees in the front yard? The cool moss under his toes soothed his hind paws. His sable front paws were raised up, lengthening his stout body. Eyes closed, he breathed in other familiar scents like ripe strawberries and wild onions. Suddenly he heard his favorite name floating out to him from his burrow.
Grandpaw, we’re ready for our bedtime story,
a small voice said.
I’ll be right along, little rascals,
Otis replied.
Opening his eyes, he noticed the blinking lights of his neighbors, the fireflies. They were hugging the tree line, which wrapped around the yard. It was nearly dark in the nearby woods already.
Right on cue,
Otis said to himself. As evening approached, he could count on the June bugs to light up the yard.
For the first time, he noticed the cats, Gabby and Zoey, playing a round of cards. They were just on the other side
