AS IT APPEARED to be the resting point of this genealogical journey, I was informed volume II was simply too long to be accommodated in one book. Consequently, volume III was born, so here we are. Good things come in threes, and in the case of our ancestors and descendants, they come in thousands we can name. Ancestors and descendants of those connected by blood to my offspring are throughout volumes I, II and III. If you are related to any one particular group in these compilations, then you are blood-related to my children. This assertion does not, of course, refer to compilations integrated in these volumes for those who only share blood relatives with my offspring nor does such assertion refer to compilations I have also incorporated for fun [such as the appendice on President Zachary Taylor]. These few are included for reasons explained in the frontmatter of volume I.

There is much overlap in the stories and histories presented in volume I. It will benefit you to read it first. Volume I, which is To Escape Into Dreams references Appendices of: To Escape Into Dreams, vols. II and III. Some readers may prefer to purchase volumes I and II—especially if they are descendants of or connected to one or more of the following families: Giordano [Gardine], Metallo, [McTall], Pirozza, Prato, Quartucci, Biller, Leighton, Vernon or Sines. THIS BOOK IS a third volume companion of the first volume: To Escape Into Dreams. It contains nearly eight years’ worth of research and compiling. Use the information you find in this volume: Appendices of: To Escape Into Dreams to help sort steps leading to you or those leading to relatives or friends or those you are inquisitive about in your own genealogical quest. Each appendice is a genealogy report. Each group of genealogical reports is preceded with commentary to add additional understanding. Genealogy research is always a work in progress. It is by no means complete.

Introduction

I REST NEAR the Deep River. White-murky-green currents rush against gray stones. I breathe relief. I am nearing the completion of my book: To Escape Into Dreams and its companion volumes: Appendices of: To Escape Into Dreams, volumes II and III. Winter winds and cold feel like peppermint against my face and hands. I am getting there like the waters that surround the land I tread upon. I hear birds faintly in the distance as clouds unveil the sun and the nearby Haw River pours itself southeast into the Cape Fear on its way to the Atlantic.

You are almost there, these waters whisper.

I walk along Jordan Dam Road with my children and our happy-go-lucky collie Roxanne and feline Clemente. Our adventure is in the midst of swaying leafless branches that reach into blue heavens like arms holding the unknown.

Mommie, why are you so interested in genealogy? my youngest son Nicholas asks. He smiles into my soul with his vibrant blue eyes and pink cheeks.

Why do you think? I ask.

Nicholas shrugs his shoulders.

I answer what he will say when he is grown:

Steps one’s ancestors have made were steps taken toward our existence. Without them, we would not experience the life we have today. We should strive to understand where we have come from so we can make responsible decisions on where we are going.

THE FOLLOWING APPENDICES are far from complete. They reflect thousands of hours of imputing information. Record keeping for past and present generations leaves much to correct. I point out variances of information on individual ancestors in both volumes. I present findings as they are, and try not to get bogged down trying to determine exact dates or exact names because even records that match have discrepancies in these things. I report; however, exactly what records appear to say—along with discrepancies apparent to me. Perhaps, you may discover something I overlooked. If you do, I applaud. Birth dates and even dates of demise are sometimes recorded within a year of two of the exact year. Nicknames, middle names and initials are sometimes substituted for a given name in public records. Scripts of very old records are difficult to discern. Transcriptions of such found on the Internet have an additional margin of error that should be considered. Even modern-day archivists make transcriptional and interpretative mistakes while copying records.
