Makeda – Queen of Sheba
Come into the garden of spice
Perfect love has no price
Among the most celebrated Queens in world history was Makeda from Ethiopia. Makeda lived 1 000 years before the birth of Jesus Christ (1000 BC). Her mother was Queen Ismenie. Her father and grandfather were the last two rulers of the Za Besi Angabo Dynasty which lasted 350 years. In the old testament of the Bible, the story is told of a famous journey shemade to Judah to meet King Solomon, a wise and wealthy King of the Israelites.
The Queen of Sheba appears in the Bible and the Kebra Negast, the holy book of Ethiopia, called the Glory of Kings. She also appears in the Koran, the holy book of Muslims. Her story, told in the world’s leading religions, demonstrates how famous and important the African Queen of Sheba was.
Makeda was born in 1020 BC and studied in Ethiopia. Her father the King died in 1005 BC. At the age of 15, Makeda became Queen, and ruled Ethiopia for 40 years.
She was known to be very intelligent, wise, hardworking, adventurous and beautiful. She had a sweet voice and was an excellent speaker.
Makeda was also a competent ruler, skilled in public relations and international diplomacy. Most of all she was inquisitive and had a thirst for knowledge.
At the time Ethiopia then known as Sheba, had a very advanced civilization and was ruled by a line of virgin queens. In power and fame, it was second in the world only to another African country,
