- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book has been a lifesaver for me as a beginner. I have wanted to get into weight lifting for awhile but it feels so intimidating not knowing how to get started. This book has been such a resource and now I'm feeling more and more confident with every workout!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5As a fan of the Jailhouse Strong series by the same authors, I am loving this book! I just finished the first section. I really like how it’s organized with 3 sections, each ending with the workouts Craig Monson did during that period in his life. The writing is super entertaining!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5If you’re looking for an effective plan that gives you the best bang for your buck, this is the one. Every set is a tough meaningful set, no fluff straight to the point! Tough but extremely effective.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is great! It truly gave me everything I needed to start a structured workout routine. My favorite part was the drawings and the detailed tips for positioning of the body. It really helped me to understand exactly how to get the exercise right! I’m excited to progress in my program!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It covers all the points in great detail. Well explained topics, and very interesting to read, a very complete book. The best option out there if you wanna be a personal trainer...
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great book. Explains a lot about the different diets for different goals in body building. The recipes are great. Great Book!!! There aren't many out there that explain how to cut, maintain, and bulk with recipes included. Awesome!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a great book for beginners and anyone else who's looking to get a better understanding of barbell training. I have not completely read through the book because it's not that simple. As soon as a concept arises where I am able to apply it to my lifting, I do so. If it works, then great, I adopt it. If it does not work, I refer back to the book to re-read the section to make sure I understood correctly. The book has really helped in the area of improving my deadlift and bench. I am still in the process of learning how to squat correctly using the methods outlined in this book, which has been a challenge, however I have noticed improvements slowly over time
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5For beginners, heads up, neither the book nor the author's website offer a training plan based solely on the information in this book. The comprehensive information can be a lot for someone who is just starting out.
That being said, the author does give you everything you need to design your own program. And the book is a manual on effective exercises and workouts. It offers high value for all ages and fitness levels. For experienced exercisers, designing a custom program from this book alone is likely pretty straightforward. For me, a beginner, it was paralyzing. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I was quite surprised at how effective this program is. I found a comprehensive (meaning whole body) but simple (meaning safe and scalable to my ability and strength) exercise system that I can do well into into my retirement. If you are over 40, or will be some day, and you want to learn how to stay active and healthy this is the real deal. Old-school even. I'm glad I found this book.
I've had many personal trainers over the years and their information was hit and miss and as I got older resulted in more injuries. This book is all good and no misses yet. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very good book about weight lifting, body building and nutrition. Probably 20 years I had it in a hard copy but lost it somewhere. This time I bought and read the kindle version. I realized that a lot of the pictures of different exercises were missing. So I downloaded a copy of it on my computer and ipad and all the pictures were back again. Not sure why some were missing when read directly on my annoying if someone didnt know to try and read it on a different device.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This has been one of my favorite cookbooks for meal prepping. I usually double the recipes so that I can spread them out throughout the week since I don’t have time to cook everyday. The breakfast hash is my absolute favorite and I actually really like eating it almost everyday! It’s that good to the point I don’t get sick of it! There’s a great overview of macros and various ways to achieve goals in the beginning of the book and even a couple meal plans to follow based on your goals. So many great meal options and it’s definitely been my go to over the last few months!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5best resource for the novice or well versed bodybuilder. gives excellent step by step for training properly with detailed photos for proper form. it also has a concise lifestyle and health food guide for gaining or losing weight. i cant count the times i have purchased this book for friends who love to live healthy and take time for the gym. forget the personal trainer and their costs, this book will get you where you need to be at a fraction of the cost. a must have!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5If you look on the StrongFirst forum, you'll find that the latest edition of Kettlebell Simple and Sinister has earned wide praise from the toughest group to please, people who had bought the earlier edition and, in many cases, were training with it for years.
If you want the best minimalist kettlebell program, one that delivers everything you could ask for while still leaving you time and energy for the rest of your life, you need look no further - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Simple program with excellent results. I'm 52, and started this program and couldn't do a Turkish getup with a 35 lb. kettlebell and had to use a 25 lb. kettlebell. I was able to do double arm swings with a 55 lb. kettlebell. After about 3 months I could do both exercises with a 55 lb. kettlebell. After 6 months, I do both getups and single arm swings with a 70 lb. kettlebell. I have seen significant improvement in core strength and lower back stability. I have also seen significant improvements in other strength exercises. Prior to kettlebells, I would struggle to do 10 pull ups. Now I can easily do 15 pull ups with only kettlebell training.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book has a ton of great information. I may not be an elite athlete or even an athlete, but I have struggled to get in better shape. Thank you Dr James for spelling some things out!!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Its quite simple and easy in understanding.
A beginner can make use of this and can get great results. I very well appreciate it. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have been reading so many books and talking to many bodybuilders, but none could explain the importance of Macronutrients so perfectly. You made the study of micronutrients so simple to understand in layman terms. Awesome book and amazing author

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a wonderfully comprehensive book on strength training for the 60+ woman. No floor exercises-just 8 exercises total for both upper and lower body. The pictures are very clear along with the instructions. Other programs feature cardio with a little bit of strength training, but this is completely dedicated to strength training. There are many other cardio options out there but if you want strength training, aka muscle building, Miriam Nelson‘s strength training program is the best.
