      PR person: "Let’s do this! Tell me about the book! Love it!!!!"

      Me: So this is a comedy book I wrote.

      PR person: "Okay. Tell me the idea. I love comedy! I love this! LOVE it!"

      Me: It’s a fake memoir written by an awful comedy writer and comedian.

      PR person (long pause): Say again?

      Me: It’s a fake memoir written by a terrible comedy writer and comedian.

      PR person: Who’s the comedian?

      Me: He’s fictional.

      PR person: So … he’s not funny and doesn’t exist. So why make him not funny?

      Me: It’s a satire on mediocrity. Both comedy and assholes in politics. It’s everything that bugs me in comedy and I guess in politics.

      PR person: "This sounds deep. Let me digest this one. Huh. Okay … Different. Hmmmm. Okay. Talk tomorrow!!!"

      PR person: Hey.

      Me: Hey.

      PR: So I’m confused. The comedian doesn’t exist?

      Me: No. He’s created by me.

      PR person: And he wrote the book?

      Me: Supposedly. I really wrote it.

      PR person: Is your name on the cover?

      Me: It’s not anywhere.

      PR person: "It’s not anywhere?! Not in the book once?!"

      Me: That’s part of the joke. I guess it’s like an Andy Kaufman character.

      PR person: "Who?"

      Me: That’s okay. I’ll send you the book.

      PR person: Cool! In the meantime, write up a summary and send my way.

      Me: You’d rather have a summary than the book?

      PR person (super pumped): "Easier. Talk soon!!!"

      Me: Did you get the book?

      PR person: I did.

      Me: Did you read it?

      PR person (laughing): No, boss. You put together the summary?

      Me: I’m doing that now.

      PR person (incredibly jazzed): "AWESOME! Email it when finished!!!!"

      Me: Hang on a sec. Have you looked at the book?

      PR person (distracted): Huh?

      Me: Have you looked at the book? Or even thumbed through it?

      PR person (distracted): "Uh huh … let me just … never
