#1 The keto diet is based on the idea that when you drastically reduce your carbohydrate intake and instead consume 80 percent of your daily calories from fat, your body shifts into a unique metabolic state called ketosis. In ketosis, the liver converts fat into ketones, which can be used to power the body and brain instead of glucose.
