Vary from Yajur, Sama, Atharva to Rig-Veda.
In English rhyme
The Katha Upanishad a dialogue does be,
Amid a wishful disciple, Nachiketas truly,
And Ruler of Death – Lord Yama really,
Regarding the great Hereafter in actuality
Invocation
Om!
May He protect us both together wholly,
By illumining nature of knowledge truly;
May He sustain the both of us completely,
By ensuring the fruits of knowledge fully;
May we attain the vigor comprehensively,
Of the knowledge together but unfailingly;
Let what we learn enlighten us clearly,
Let us not hate others, have no enmity.
Om! Peace! Peace! Peace!
PART 1:
Chapter I
Vajashravasa, desiring rewards clearly,
Performed Vishvajit sacrifice earnestly,
And giving away his material property,
Was blessed with son Nachiketa finally.
1-2
When the gifts were distributed in actually,
The Faith entered Nachiketa’s heart clearly,
He thought: worlds where he goes joyless be,
Who gifts cows not drink, eat, without calve be.
3
Asked: Father! To whom will I gifted be?
Asked a second, third time adamantly,
Then his father replied sober, sincerely,
Unto the Death, I will gift you eventually.
4
Among many I the first; middlemost be,
But I am never the very last certainly,
What use to King of Death my father be,
By thus giving me away to him in reality?
5
Nachiketa said:
How it was with who came before us see,
How it is with who are with us currently,
A mortal but ripens like corn eventually,
And like corn he springs up again surely.
6
Yama’s ministers said to him:
As fire, brahmin guest enters house verily;
And the householder pacifies him softly,
By offering him a seat very respectfully,
And bring him water, King of Death truly!
7
Brahmin who is in house but fasting be,
