Sanguisuge book 6 - Sharon Lopez
Chapter 1
We turned left, checking every door, room, and closet. Scott groaned after each search proved unsuccessful.
Where is he?
Scott ran his hand through his reddish-brown hair.
We will find him if it takes all night,
Ethan reassured, patting his brother on the back.
Jacob stopped walking, curiousness filled his face. Why hide him so well?
We stopped mid-step, turning our attention to Jacob, and then he continued.
We found Finn rather quickly. What is the difference between the two?
I pondered Jacob’s questions. What was the difference? In terms of authority, my dad posed more of a threat. Brendan was younger, but given both were vampires, there would be no difference in strength or capability. Why would they make Brendan harder to find? An idea formed, and I posed it to the group.
What if Brendan knows something? Maybe he overheard a conversation or saw something that The Rising needed to be kept a secret?
Everyone’s eyes were on me. I could tell by their expressions that the answers I gave to Jacob’s questions were more than a possibility.
What could he know?
Ethan asked.
We won’t know that answer until we find him,
Jacob said, opening another door.
We followed Jacob into the room. It was relatively empty due to not being assigned to anyone. The room housed a tall, dark wood dresser with silver handles, and a bed stood in pieces up on its side. Scott slammed his back against the wall in frustration. The action brought about a hollow sound. Scott turned to face the wall as Ethan, Jacob, and I hurried over. We began knocking all around, searching for some sort of secret entrance. Ethan thumped the wall and heard a pounding from the other side.
Brendan?
Ethan, I’m in here,
Brendan’s muffled voice called out.
Ethan ran his hand along the wall. Right here. It’s raised.
Ethan pushed on the raised area and the wall opened to a passageway. Brendan rushed forward, meeting Ethan at the entrance before he could enter. Brendan threw his arms around his brother, but pulled back quickly.
Ethan, Darby, he is going to kidnap Trin!
Ethan nodded and led Brendan out into the room. Brendan glanced at each of us. Relief washed over his face as his eyes met mine.
Trin!
Brendan was in front of me in seconds. He embraced me tightly. I am so glad you’re ok... Wait... you had the twins?
Brendan stepped out of the hug and looked down at my flat abdomen.
I smiled, running my hand down my stomach. You have to see them, Brendan. They are absolutely beautiful.
Let’s go do that. I have so much to tell you.
The five of us spent no time dawdling as we hurried to the bedroom. We entered my room, and a smile crossed my face as I saw Nana rocking Noah and Ava. She held them in the crook of her arms, humming a lullaby of some sorts as she slowly rocked back and forth.
How are they?
I whispered.
Nana grinned. Perfect little angels.
The smile vanished from my face. My eyes went round, and my mouth hung open momentarily. Real angels?
Nana chuckled lightly. Oh, child, stop worrying about what Vilarri said.
I regained my composure, and the smile returned as Nana handed Noah to me and Ava to Ethan.
Enjoy them, child. They may be powerful, but tenderness fills them too.
Nana kissed both of their foreheads and then left the room.
Vilarri, in his prophetic ways, had told Ethan and me that Noah and Ava were not only powerful, but they would decide the fate of us all. As if that was not enough of a shock, he said that Noah and Ava were vampire, scion, and a lot more. When questioned, he would offer nothing specific, which left Ethan and me with a lot of questions. Whether he knew and would not say, or he had questions of his own, I supposed I would never know.
Brendan stood between us, his lips pulled up into a smile. He stared at the children with a peaceful expression. They are beautiful. Their eyes, I have seen nothing like them. It’s like looking into the heavens.
I grinned.
Ethan chuckled.
Brendan fixed his gaze on his brother. What?
Everyone that has seen them has said that in one way or another.
Brendan glanced at Ethan and I. Would you mind terribly if I held them?
Of course you can. You are their uncle.
Ethan handed Ava to Brendan.
Scott had taken a few steps forward and studied Brendan.
Scott, would you like to hold Noah?
With a nod, Scott grinned. He and Brendan stood together fawning over their niece and nephew.
Brendan lifted his head, briefly glancing at Ethan. Noah. I really like that. What’s your daughter’s name?
Ava,
Ethan replied proudly.
Terrific names, Trin.
Brendan turned to Ethan. "It is obvious you didn’t name them. You couldn’t even name your
