      TESSA

      Tessa Mathews lifted her glass of champagne to her lips. The bubbles tickled her nose as she drank. Upbeat music poured through the speakers by the outdoor dance floor. A cool spring breeze washed over her skin giving her gooseflesh. Tessa brushed her hand over her arm, smoothing down the raised bumps in an attempt to get warm. Her gaze wandered over the crowd of people dancing or congratulating the newlyweds under the white tent making their way around to their guests. Tessa didn’t know Maddy or Turner personally, but she couldn’t pass up the chance to be a plus-one and fly from landlocked Colorado to the beautiful seacoast of Shattered Cove and lush Emerson farmland.

      Roy’s blue hair stuck out among the crowd, making it easy to find him. Not that her body wasn’t aware of his presence all on its own. He turned and smiled at something the groom said to him, his white teeth flashing. The front one was a little crooked, but it just added to his character. She liked that about him—that he wasn’t perfect. Perfection was an illusion. Her ex-husband was proof of that. Roy was the polar opposite of Todd—thank God. She wouldn’t have gone into business with him otherwise.

      The black button-up short-sleeve shirt Roy wore hugged his toned biceps, showing off his intricate sleeve tattoos that extended all the way along his arms down to his fingers on both sides. His ink covered his body. She’d done one of them herself—the owl on his neck. His white suspenders matched the discs in his gauged ears. The man was eccentric—a free spirit. The exact opposite of Tessa in every way. But that was why their partnership worked so well. And he was one of few who were willing to take a chance on a woman tattoo artist as a business partner.

      As if he knew she was thinking of him, Roy’s Atlantic eyes met hers. His signature smirk lifted his full lips, and he winked. Tessa rose one of her eyebrows and shook her head, smothering a smile. She couldn’t look away from him, captured in a tangled web of attraction. The sharp slant of his nose and the hard planes of his chiseled features with his alabaster skin made it seem as if Roy were carved from marble. There was something about a man with bright blue eyes and jet-black hair—even if it was dyed blue at the top—that was so seductive. The contrast of colors, light and dark, like the ink imbedded in his skin,
