About this ebook

From New York Times bestselling author Mariah Stewart comes a novel of sexy romantic suspense for fans of Nora Roberts, Catherine Coulter, and Karen Robards.

THIS KILLER TAKES THEIR BREATH AWAY.

A nine-year veteran of the FBI, special agent Mia Shields thinks she’s seen it all. But nothing prepares her for the terror that descends upon the idyllic bayside community of St. Dennis, on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, where a depraved killer has left a grisly surprise for Chief of Police Gabriel Beck: the body of an unidentified woman, naked and completely encased in plastic wrap, stretched across the back-seat of Beck’s car. Hidden in the wrapping is a tape recording of the victim’s last, gasping words, terrifying evidence of the horror endured at the hands of a madman. Soon the body count begins to rise as more victims are found, all gruesomely cocooned, their final pleas also captured on tape.
Determined to catch the sadistic killer, Beck and Mia team up and set a trap–with Mia as bait. But their prey is closer than they ever could have imagined. Now Beck must race against time to save Mia from becoming the next victim of a serial killer as elusive as he is evil.

The plot is based on what what can happen when an interrogation is based on preconceived ideas, the heart-ache and suffering that results. An innocent man was executed and now FBI agents Andrew Shield and Dorsey Collins must find the real murderer. This was a fast-paced read I didn't want to set the book down. Well-plotted with excellent characters.  The relationship between Andrew and Dorsey is played out in the background and only adds an additional element to the story, it definitely doesn't overshadow it. I liked that it showed that everyone suffers from a bad result not just the victim but all concerned. Our justice system is not infallible, those who work in law enforcement are not heartless monsters even when they make a mistake.

Quick, one sitting read but entertaining. Full of unique characters that if given more pages, would have been exciting to learn about. In fact, I wished more than once that the book was longer so every one could get a more deep analysis. There are still a lot of skeletons and rocks left unturned to make Mia Sheilds a lasting character of a series.~~~SPOILERS~~The "who dunnit" was hidden better than I expected, although the motives were obvious from the beginning.I liked that the romance was slow to take shape. Maybe I've been reading too many YA novels where it seems to materialize overnight (sometimes over hours). This felt realistic.

Mariah Stewart has a way with families and their dramas, this book is no exception. The FBI agents a reeling from their own family dramas and the victims of which there is more than one in the book are also dealing with family issues. The setting is a small southern town where everyone knows everyone else and more than one person is keeping a secret. One of the biggest is a girl presumed dead for 24 years is found just recently murdered. While the agents work their way through the partial truths and the lies they form a bond. First in a series and a continuation of some of the same characters. Picking up one of Mariah Stewarts books is like connecting to friends. It can stand alone but you'll want to read them all. I'd recommend this to someone looking for a mystery with a bit of romance on the side.

A good suspense story but very little romance. A very interesting plot setup and the investigation moved at a good pace with all the aspects it needed to uncover. A man is executed for a murder and 24 years later the victim is again found murdered. FBI agent Dorsey shadows fellow agent Andrew in the investigation.

When the body of Shannon Randall, a murdered prostitute, turns up, FBI Special Agents Dorsey Collins and Andrew Shields try to uncover the truth about the woman, supposedly killed more than two decades earlier in a crime for which a man had been executed. The case is personal to Dorsey, since her father was the FBI agent who "solved" the original case which led to the execution of an innocent man. "Last Look" is suspenseful and leaves the reader guessing until the very last page. It is book 1 of a new series featuring the Shields family of FBI agents.
