Linear Relationships Math Log Unit 4

This math log outlines assignments, assessments, and goals for a unit on linear relationships. Students will complete various worksheets and activities exploring concepts like proportional relationships, slope, y-intercept, graphing lines, and writing linear equations. They will identify constant rates of change in tables, graphs, and equations and learn to calculate slope. The goals are for students to understand that linear functions increase at a constant rate and work with linear equations in the form y=mx+b by graphing, writing equations from data, and finding the intersection of two lines.

Math Log Unit 4 Linear Relationships

Common core standards

7.RP.2.b - Identify the constant of proportionality (unit rate) in tables,

graphs, equations, diagrams, and verbal descriptions of proportional
relationships

8.EE.5 - Graph proportional relationships, interpreting the unit rate as

the slope of the graph. Compare two different proportional relationships
represented in different ways. For example, compare a distance-time
graph to a distance-time equation to determine which of two moving
objects has greater speed.

8.EE.6 - Use similar triangles to explain why the slope m is the same
between any two distinct points on a non-vertical line in the coordinate
plane; derive the equation y = mx for a line through the origin and the
equation y = mx + b for a line intercepting the vertical axis at b.

Goals

I understand that linear functions increase by a constant rate

I know that the rate of increase, or slope, of any linear equation can be
simplified to a unit rate

I can calculate slope from a given t-chart, graph, or equation for a linear
relationship

I understand the y-intercept is the point at which the graph of a linear

equation intersects the y-axis

I can construct a t-chart and appropriate graph from a linear equation

I know all linear equations take the form y=mx+b when written in slopeintercept form

I can write a linear equation given the necessary data from a t-chart or
graph

I can find the intersection of two linear equations
