Math Log Unit 4 Linear Relationships
Common core standards
7.RP.2.b - Identify the constant of proportionality (unit rate) in tables,
graphs, equations, diagrams, and verbal descriptions of proportional
relationships
8.EE.5 - Graph proportional relationships, interpreting the unit rate as
the slope of the graph. Compare two different proportional relationships
represented in different ways. For example, compare a distance-time
graph to a distance-time equation to determine which of two moving
objects has greater speed.
8.EE.6 - Use similar triangles to explain why the slope m is the same
between any two distinct points on a non-vertical line in the coordinate
plane; derive the equation y = mx for a line through the origin and the
equation y = mx + b for a line intercepting the vertical axis at b.
Goals
I understand that linear functions increase by a constant rate
I know that the rate of increase, or slope, of any linear equation can be
simplified to a unit rate
I can calculate slope from a given t-chart, graph, or equation for a linear
relationship
I understand the y-intercept is the point at which the graph of a linear
equation intersects the y-axis
I can construct a t-chart and appropriate graph from a linear equation
I know all linear equations take the form y=mx+b when written in slopeintercept form
I can write a linear equation given the necessary data from a t-chart or
graph
I can find the intersection of two linear equations
