Fundamentals of Digital Image Processing.: L. Yaroslavsky

Digital image processing involves using computers to analyze and manipulate digital images. It aims to improve image quality by reducing noise and other artifacts ("garbage in, gold out"). The main tasks of image processing are image formation, calibration and restoration, quantitative analysis and parameter estimation, interactive processing and analysis, automated analysis and understanding, data compression, data mining, and mathematical simulation. The course will introduce digital image processing and its applications, elements of signal theory and two-dimensional signal processing, image discretization and reconstruction, filtering and restoration, enhancement, and medical image analysis and computer-aided diagnosis.
