Non-Rising Stem Gate Valve Explained

A non-rising stem gate valve has a threaded bottom stem that does not rise when the valve is opened. Rotating the wheel opens or closes the valve by raising or lowering the gate rather than raising the stem. The stem remains stationary while the gate is raised or lowered to open or close flow.

Non-rising stem. On a non-rising stem valve, the bottom part of the


stem
is
threaded. The stem does not rise when the valve is opened.
Rotating the wheel opens
or closes the valve by raising or lowering
the gate. (see figure ).
