SPRING CLEAN
On the 30th of April we had a Spring clean at Gateway and the place is
looking shiny! Thank you to the many members who came to help out. A
small reminder to each and all to share the house-keeping duties. It has been
slacking lately but no doubt that it will pick up again shortly! Gateway is our
Project, and its up to us to keep it looking well.
Behind every scar is an untold story of survival
THIS IS PEERLED SUPPORT
On Thursday the 23rd
of April we had a meetup in Caf Moda while
the Project staff were
having a training and
planning day. There were about ten people at the meetup, and Gateway very kindly gave us 50 Euro for teas
and coffees everybody was delighted! Some of us sat
out in the sun and some of us inside. We had a lovely
time together, and thought we should do this sort of
thing more often.
We started thinking of what we could do together, and
some ideas that came up were picnics, fishing trips,
pool outings and just meeting for a cuppa among
others. There was great excitement and interest in this.
Dee H has offered to text people when meet-ups are
happening, but since this wouldnt be official Gateway
stuff we wont have access to members phone
numbers. We would love as many people to be
involved as possible, so please give us your phone
number (or email if you prefer) if you think this is
something you would like to hear about. You can pass
it on to Dee H or Maura in drop-in, or if you like give
Gateway a call and ask one of the team to pass your
details along to Dee. -Maura
THE GIFT OF TIME
Last Month there was a Gathering
of Lions Demonstration at the South
Africa Embassy. Before the event
on Thursday at the art group and
Friday at the creative writing class
the Members of Gateway held the
Posters for some great pictures. I
will always remember their
kindness at the demonstration. I
thought I would be on my own and
for the first time I felt frightened
and anxious. I had a lot of posters
prepared. I was there for a while on
my own. To my delight John and
Kevin turned up and I was so
appreciative. Then to my joy John
and Maura showed up. The weather
was perfect and I took brilliant
photos. I cannot forget the depth of
my gratitude for the support I got
from Gateway Members. I am a
loner but in those instances I was
not alone at all. John , Maura and I
went for a cuppa afterwards in Alfie
Byrnes. Being a part of Gateway is
so important to me. -Linda
ARTS & CRAFTS IN
MAY
THE WORLD
OF THE
INTERNET...
If you want to learn
something
completely new in
one online place
there are some amazing free resources on the
internet. Depending on what you wish to link into
from beginner tech skills to languages to friendly
meet ups and fun, engineering or business degrees.
There are superb instructions available from sites
such as The Khan Academy (khanacademy.org),
Udacity.com, Lynda.com, Alison.com (which is
Irish) courser.org and meetup.com.
Meetup.com is an excellent website to link up with
others who have similar hobbies and interests. You
can join these websites as a lone member and
websites like meet-up are excellent for singles or
groups to meet similar like minded people. Some of
these include paid courses but be assured much of it
is completely free and good quality.

PARTY TIME AGAIN :)
When I is replaced
by We, even illness
becomes wellness.
As you will probably have heard,
Gateway is losing its host
organisation, the Rathmines
Pembroke Community Partnership
(though we have found a new one
so dont fret). In honour and
celebration of all the great work
the people at RPCP have put in over the yearsnot just for us in Gateway but for
many other community groupswe are having a party on Thursday the 7th of May.
Come and celebrate all these wonderful people at 1 oclock this Thursday. Bring
yourself, and some goodies if you can. The event will also welcome Mental Health
Ireland - Gateway's incoming host organisation - and bring the community together
for the Green Ribbon launch to get us all talking about mental health. Ali

POOL COMPETITION
Olivier R knocked this sports editor out of the game, who didnt try his
best as he had an article to write on the competition! Martha and Ann
Marie went down to the black ball, and Martha won that round. In the final
an unbelievable shot from the D where he put an awful lot of side-spin on
and came off the cushion to knock the black ball in and win the game! One
of the greatest shots in the history of the Gateway competition!
Congratulations to Derek!
