Circles: by Yash Marwah

A circle is a set of points equidistant from a fixed center point. A circle's radius is the common distance between the center and any point on the circle. A tangent line intersects a circle at only one point, and a perpendicular line from that point of contact passes through the circle's center. Theorems state that the angle between a tangent and chord equals half the subtended angle on the other side of the chord, and a tangent is perpendicular to the radius at the point of contact.

Circles

By Yash Marwah
Introduction to a circle
• A circle is a set of points which are all a
certain distance from a fixed point known
as the centre.

• The common distance of the points of a

circle from its centre is called its radius.
Tangent to a circle
• Tangent to a circle is a line which
intersects the circle in exactly one point

• A line drawn perpendicular to a tangent

through the point of contact with a circle
passes through the centre of the circle.
Theorems about tangents
• The angle between a tangent and chord is
equal to one half the subtended angle on
the opposite side of the chord

• The tangent at any point of a circle is

perpendicular to the radius through the
point of contact
