Dear Media,

On Friday afternoon, July 9th I contacted Premier Pallister to inform him I was stepping down from my
position as the Minister of Indigenous and Northern Relations, effective immediately. This decision was
made with considerable thought, and I am confident it is the right decision at this time.

Since my appointment as Minister of Indigenous and Northern Relations May 3, 2016, and I have worked
hard to do the best job possible for all. Serving Manitobans in this manner is a high honour and one I have
never taken for granted. I would like to acknowledge all Indigenous leadership past and current, Elders and
communities for welcoming me on to their Traditional Lands. It has been as incredible 5 years learning your
culture, ceremonies and teachings. I have learned a lot from you and I truly trust and respect you.

In that regard, I must be clear that I do not condone the most recent destruction and vandalism of the
monuments at the Manitoba legislative building. We all need to work together, listen to each other and work
towards our common goal. It is only with positive relationships and constructive actions can we build trust
and understanding.

I have in the past made commitments to the people that I represent in government; my constituents,
Indigenous people and all Manitobans who expect us to speak and act on their behalf. I am hearing from
many people across the province that they are disappointed with the representation they are getting at this
time. I have spoken up on several issues but I feel my voice and other voices were not heard in Cabinet.

Change is necessary; today I commit to doing what’s right for the people of Manitoba and myself. It is not
my intent to divide or be disrespectful, but I do feel some transparency is required.

I will proudly continue to serve the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba and look forward to spending
more time serving the people of Agassiz Constituency as we recover from the effects of Covid-19 and rebuild
the economy of our great Province.

This is the only statement I will be making and I will not be responding to interview requests.

Eileen Clarke
