Chapter 6: Basic Tools Study Questions

1.The common ratchet sizes are , 3/8, and

2.A multimeter should be used when measuring
and testing current in a circuit.
3.A battery hydrometer is used to measure the
electrolyte solution of a battery.
4.Metric and English are the two types most
commonly used.
5.An air gauge measures how much air is in a
tire.
6.Slotted (Flat head) and Phillips head are the
two most common types of screwdrivers. The
head of the screwdriver will only work if it is
the right head for the bolt or screw.
7.The only wrench you should have is an
adjustable wrench.
8.If you dont use the correct tool, injury or the
damage of parts can occur. Also, it makes the
job go much quicker.
9.Diagonal plyers are used to cut things, mostly
wire. Grove joint pliers (Channellocks) are great
for grasping large pipes and bolts due to their
adjustability. Locking plyers (Vise-grips) are
best for holding things in place or grabbing
onto stripped screws and nuts.

10. Wheel chocks are put behind (or in front) of


tires to keep the car from rolling.
11. If you use 6 point there is a smaller risk of
rounding the end of a nut or bolt. Also you can
get a better grip on it.
