CREATIVE
PROBLEM
SOLVING
(UCS1441)
Introduction
byNurul Izzaturrohmah
WHAT IS
CREATIVITY?
Creativity is a phenomenon
whereby something new and
somehow valuable is formed.
The created item may be
intangible (such as an idea, a
scientific theory, a musical
composition, or a joke) or a
physical object (such as an
invention, a literary work, or a
painting).
Starting with nothing and ending
up with something. Interpreting
something you saw or
experienced and processing
it so it comes out different
than how it went in.
Henry Rollins
EXAMPLE SITUATION THAT
RELATE TO CREATIVITY
Alexander Graham Bell invented the first telephone in the world. This
is a creative situation as he introduced the phone, which allows
communication even long distances in the world.
WHAT IS PROBLEM
SOLVING?
Problem solving consists of using generic or
ad hoc methods, in an orderly manner, for
finding solutions to problems. Some of the
problem-solving techniques developed and
used in artificial intelligence, computer
science, engineering, mathematics, or
medicine are related to mental problem-
solving techniques studied in psychology.
We can not solve our problems
with the same level of thinking
that created them.
Albert Einstein
FIVE STEPS IN
PROBLEM SOLVING
1. Define the Problem
What are you trying to solve? In
addition to getting clear on what
the problem is, defining the
problem also establishes a goal
for what you want to achieve.
2. Brainstorm Ideas
What are some ways to solve the
problem? The goal is to create a
list of possible solutions to
choose from. The harder the
problem, the more solutions you
may need.
3. Decide on a Solution
What are you going to do? The
ideal solution is effective (it will
meet the goal), efficient (is
affordable), and has the fewest
side effects (limited
consequences from
implementation).
4. Implement the Solution
What are you doing? The
implementation of a solution requires
planning and execution. Its often
iterative, where the focus should be on
short implementation cycles with testing
and feedback, not trying to get it
perfect the first time.
5. Review the Results
What did you do? To know you
successfully solved the problem, its
important to review what worked, what
didnt and what impact the solution had.
It also helps you improve long-term
problem solving skills and keeps you
from re-inventing the wheel.
EXAMPLE OF
PROBLEM
CASE STUDY
Bella is a SPM candidates. She is
doing Additional Mathematics exercise
for preparation before the real exam,
she is facing problems with the
question. The question is:
A football club wants to build a mini
stadium. The first row consists of 19
seats. The number of the seats of each
subsequent row is 2 more than the
preceding rows. Calculate the minimum
number of rows of seats needed to
accomodate 1500 audience.
EXAMPLE OF
SOLUTION
1) Define the problem
-How many the minimum number
of rows of seats needed to
accomodate 1500 audience?
2) Brainstorm Ideas
- Find the keywords
(information) from the question.
(Exp: a=19 , d=2)
- Identify the subtopic and
formula.
(Topic - Geometric progression
Formula - Sn=n/2[2a+(n-1)d])
3) Decide a solution
- Choose the correct formula and
make sure the keywords is correct or
else it will effect the calculation.
4) Implement the solution
-Start calculate the answer regarding
the keywords and formula.
5) Review the results
- Recheck the calculation with
teacher or the answer given behind
the exercise book.
MYEXPECTATION
I will be more proficient in solving the
problems in my daily life. Before this, I
underestimate this subject, but now I
realize that this subject is very important
because we are always surrounded by
problems.
"Normal people always have problems"
CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, this subject is very important in daily life. A life must
have a problem, so where there is a problem there is a solution.
So, I hope next I will use the knowledge that I get from this subject
in my life.
