Human Geography Fieldwork Guide

1) The purpose of the fieldwork is to delineate the boundary of the CBD using pedestrian counts, with the hypothesis that the CBD has the highest pedestrian count. 2) Primary data will be collected through pedestrian counts at various locations, while secondary data on past pedestrian counts will provide support. Sample questions and time periods for counts will be used. 3) Findings will be presented on a map and evaluated to draw a conclusion on the CBD boundary.

Purpose
o The aim of the fieldwork as stated in the question eg. delineating the
boundary of CBD using pedestrian count
o Your hypothesis eg. the CBD has the highest pedestrian count
Data and methods
o State whether you are using primary or secondary data eg. collating primary
data through pedestrian count but will support findings with secondary data
which indicates past pedestrian counts in the area etc.
o Primary: observation, survey, interview
Sampling: number (how many companies are you interviewing), point
(where are you going to locate yourself to survey people), target
audience (who are you surveying)
State some sample questions eg. why does your company choose to
invest in China
Time
Equipment eg. stopwatches
Number of people involved and how you want to group them
Process
Say how you are going to eliminate errors eg. averaging times
o Secondary: books
Presentation, evaluation and conclusion
o Plot a graph, map, contour lines and why

*You can choose to write the data and methods part in steps as follows:
1) I would gather 14 classmates.
2) I would divide them into 7 groups.
Etc.

The main point is to be clear and specific.
