1 General Description

1.1Upgrade Description
This document describes Upgrade Guide of HUAWEI B683. The whole software upgrading includes
BCM software and MSM software upgrading. The upgrading method of BCM will be described in section
3, and the upgrading method of MSM will be described in section 4. Please refer to the corresponding
section corresponds to your need.

3 B683 Software Upgrading Process

The method is supported to upgrade B683 software image: Multi-file update.

You can upgrade APP and RES by Multi-file update.
If the user use B683 for first time, we suggest you to use Multi-file update, because the APP file and RES
file must work together, if you upgrade APP file but have not upgrade RES file, the WEB page may have
some errors.

3.1Preparation before Upgrading

3.1.1Check of Operating System,database and configuration file,kernal parameter

and system operation status
windows 98、2000、windows xp、vista
IE 6.0 and prior versions.

3.1.2Backup of Operating System,database and relevant files

Obtain and Check of FMC upgrade tool

3.2 Urgency Upgrade Mode

When failed to upgrade the APP file ,the APP may have already been destroyed, B683 will enter
BOOT environment automatically, an other method can be used to upgrade APP.
1、Check the network connection of maintenance PC,and configure an IP address for the PC
manually,the range of the IP address is from 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.200,set subnet mask to
255.255.255.0,default gateway is NULL

2、Open IE explorer，input the B683’s IP address 192.168.1.6，then enter the upgrading page under
the BOOT environment:

3、Click the “browse” button on this page and select the right image file(APP file),then click the
“Upgrade Software” button to upgrade the APP software.Please wait for about 2 minutes until you
see the page below,that means, the upgrade process has finished successfully.

When upgrade successs,it will jump to 192.168.1.1 page automatic.

3.3 Multi-file update

Take B683 for example.
Connect PC and FMC through network cable and download the document FMC Upgrade
Gen.EXE. Then you can see an icon like this:

This is a tool which can generate the upgrade tool we need. Double click this icon, you
can access an interface like the picture below.

You are not attention to Product and Version,please chose Realtek in Type,like Figure 6.

You shold take all .BIN files in Folder.The relation of options and BIN file is show in
follow talbe.

Wireless Module’s Firemware Wireless Module firmware
Wireless Module’s Dashboard Dashboard
Select the Router Module’s Common Html Resource, and choose the xxxx_HTMLRES.BIN
file of the router module from your computer.
Select the Router Module’s Special Html Code, and choose the xxxx_HTMLCODE.BIN file of
the router module from your computer.

Select the Router Module’s APP, and choose the xxxx_APP.BIN file of the router module

from your computer.

Select the Router Module’s Default Config, and choose the xxxx_DEFAULTCFG.BIN file of
the wireless module from your computer.
Select the Wireless Module’s Firemware, and choose the Wireless Module firmware file of the
client software from your computer.
Select the Wireless Module’s Dashboard, and choose the Dashboard file of the client
software from your computer.

Click the Generate button, and you can see that an exe file has been created by
FMCUpgradeGen. The icon is

Double click this icon, then you can access an interface like this:

Click Check button

The software can find the corresponding upgrade version by the path we set in
FMCUpgradeGen. Click Upgrade to start the upgrade process.

Wait for about 8mins until the whole upgrade process finishes, make sure the device is
not powered off. You can close the interface and your device will restart automatically.

3.4 Examine after Upgrade

After upgrade, we can load in web server of B683 and verify the current version
according the following step: select System->Device Information, check the current version and
release data.

3.5 Abnormality Handling Process During Upgrading

3.5.1Abnormality Handling Process During Upgrade

1、 If network disconnect or power shut down when uploading APP iamge according to
the method introduced in section 3.2, it can not destroy board software and we can upgrade
again using the methods of 3.2 .

2、 If upgrade BOOT image using the method described in section 3.2.2, then shutting
off power and disconnecting network in upgrading is prohibited, because of the upgrade
failure will become beyond retrieve.

4 Dial testing scheme after Upgrade

After verify version, try to dial and connect internet.

1. Log on Web page of B683, check whether display correct language.
