Purpose
Use this procedure to create a Material BOM
Trigger
None
Prerequisites
Bill of material structure is required for a material.
Material number should exist for the BOM to be created.
Menu Path
Use the following menu path(s) to begin this transaction:
SAP Menu à Logistics à Production à Master Data à Bills of MaterialàBill of
MaterialàMaterial BOM àCS01 - Create
Type in CS01 in the command line.

Note:
R/O/C in the field tables represents Required, Optional, or Conditional field entries.
• Optional field: you may enter information in an optional field, but an entry is not required for the
completion of the transaction.
• Conditional field: an entry that becomes required as a result of entering something previous to it,
which then deems it required.

Procedure
1. Start the transaction using the menu path or transaction code.
2. As required, complete/review the following fields:
Field Name R/O/C Description
Transaction Code R Description of the Transaction Code.
Example: CS01

3. As required, complete/review the following fields:
Field Name R/O/C Description
Material R SAP Code. In the Material field, enter the material for which
you want to create the BOM.
Example: 100000000010
Plant R Plant in which this BOM is valid
Enter plant identifier
Example: EE11
Note: If left blank, this becomes a group BOM. Make sure to
enter a plant.
BOM Usage R The manner in which this BOM is to be used
Use 1 for Production, 9 For Rework and R for Reactive
(Pigments Division)

Alternative BOM O Identifies which BOM for this material is to be
created/selected
Enter alternative if desired
Note: The system will check to see if it exists. Otherwise, the
system will automatically allocate the number.
Valid From R Date from which change is effective
Enter effective date
Note: Defaults to current date.

4. Update the following Required, Optional, and Conditional fields, as needed:
Field R/O/C Description/Action
Component R Material number
Enter material number.
Example: E.g. 320000000051 and
320000000052
Quantity R Quantity of the component required to make the
base quantity of the material
Enter the required quantity.
Example:
Un O Unit of measure. Defaults from material master.
Enter if different from base UOM.
Example: KG, EA
Ict R Item category
L for Stock Items
N for non-stock items

Press enter for each of the different warning messages.
Highlight each line as follows:
Click on Item for the component details.
Use Next Item to move through the components.

Create material BOM: Item: All data
Field R/O/C Description/Action
Recursion allowed O Flag allowing the material to consume itself during
the production process. It controls whether the
system checks the BOM for recursiveness.

Click on the tab.
Note the costing relevancy field. X means it is 100% relevant to costing – this must be used for all
components, except for ZPIP materials (e.g. water).
Use Next Item and Previous Item to move forward and backwards through the components.

5. Select Go to Header F6.
6. As required, complete/review the following fields:

Enter descriptive text
Base Quantity R Quantity to which all component quantities in a BOM relate.
System defaults to one unless otherwise configured
Enter base quantity if different from default
BOM Status R 1: Active
2: Inactive
Select active if the BOM can be used, inactive if not
7. Click on the BOM status drop down:
