Assignment 1

The document provides the answers to a data analysis assignment question about analyzing the lead time of 40 orders from an ecommerce company. It includes drawing a histogram and frequency polygon of the lead times, calculating statistics like the number of orders filled in under 10 and 15 days, and developing a cumulative frequency distribution and polygon. It determines that about 60% of orders were filled in less than 15 days based on analyzing the data.

Question 1
[Link], a large Internet retailer, is studying the lead time (elapsed time between
when an order is placed and when it is filled) for a sample of recent orders. The lead times are
reported in days.

a. How many orders were studied?

b. What is the midpoint of the first class?
c. What are the coordinates of the first class for a frequency polygon?
d. Draw a histogram.
e. Draw a frequency polygon.
f. Interpret the lead times using the two charts.
g. How many orders were filled in less than 10 days? In less than 15 days?
h. Convert the frequency distribution to a cumulative frequency distribution.
i. Develop a cumulative frequency polygon.
j. About 60 percent of the orders were filled in less than how many days?
Answer
a. There are 40 orders that were studied.
b. The midpoint of the first class is (5+0)/2 = 2,5.
c. The coordinates of the first class for a frequency polygon are (2,5 ; 6). 2,5 is the midpoint
of the first class and 6 is the frequency.

f. From the two charts above, we can conclude that:

1. The lead time of orders ranged from 0 up to 25 days.
2. The lead time for the most orders was concentrated between 10 up to 15 days, the
average of this class is 12,5 days. It is the lead time for 12 orders or 30% of the orders.
g. 13 orders were filled in less than 10 days. 25 orders were filled in less than 15 days.
