We would like to draw your attention to the backfilling you have carried out behind

and around the right wall of the intake part 2 (MJ4-MJ5) and intake part 3 (MJ6-
MJ7). We have observed following issues and instruct you to rectify them
immediately:
1) Backfilling has commenced (at night shifts with no prior notice to the
engineer) without laying the precast slab on the 20 mm thick C15 concrete infill
placed over the outer drain wall and 10 mm thick C15 concrete infill placed between
the inner side of the slab and the right wall. Refer to the construction drawings
and rectify it.
2) Fill material has been found to be oversized. All dumped materials should be
removed and only materials with size below 15 cm can be used as backfill. The
contractor should manage adequate screening arrangements to remove the oversized
materials before they are brought for use in works.
3)Fill material has been found to be dumped without layerwise compaction. Fill
materials should be only laid in layers of not more than 300 mm compacted
thickness. As the generator house and the transformer have to be located in the
area where the backfill materials have been dumped, the contractor is reminded of
the the sensitivity of the compaction requirements. Refer to the clause 5.01.03.2
of the specifications and rectify accordingly.
