Equilibrium Constant Analysis in Chemistry

This document summarizes an experiment to determine the equilibrium constant (Kc) for the reaction of Fe3+ and SCN- ions. Absorbance measurements were taken of solutions containing varying concentrations of reactants and products at equilibrium. The average Kc value calculated was 244.4, though the results indicate Kc is not truly constant, with a percent error of 22.2%. Sources of error include improper use of the colorimeter and inaccurate solution preparation and measurement. Future experiments should take more care to minimize errors.
