Title: stories 7-9
We all in our lives hold onto beliefs and truths we have known and learned. But many events
come into our ways that can alter those beliefs and can bring out our inner self which we
ourselves knew nothing about. In this story we see how Nnam, the protagonist of the story,
comes to know about truths she knew nothing about after her Husband’s sudden death. Her life
becomes empty and the feel of loss haunts her. She tries hard enough to get over the
harrowing memories of her husband. She and her husband both being immigrants in London,
had tried their best to earn enough to rear their two children and support Kayita’s, her
husband’s family in Uganda; where two other children of Kayita and his former wife lived. She
devoted all her life and herself for her children and husband; and unlike any other wife she
never came into his husband’s way to support his other two children; rather she encouraged
him to support them. She did all the hard work that she could and build a house in Uganda
thinking about his husband’s interest, although they lived in London. She did her best because
she loved her husband and never questioned or doubted anything he did. She was happy in her
marriage, because she knew just like her; Kayita also loved her and had dedicated his life for
Nnam and their children. But things changes once she comes to know about Kayita have lied to
her from the beginning; that, their marriage was based on lies and her husband was never loyal
to her; because all this time he was also with his former wife and had two more children there,
even after marrying Nnam. Kayita kept it hidden and used Nnam for his needs, may be because
he loved his first wife not Nnam and Nnam was just serving him not knowing the truth. These
truth sakes her up and disgust her so much that she stops loving her husband at that very
moment and at the funeral of her husband she decides to take back everything which she has
invested for the sake of her husband’s good. She decides to take back the house she built and
don’t hesitate to despise her husband and his family at the event of his funeral. While once she
encouraged her husband to support his other children, now she takes back everything she
could take from her capacity. The betrayal takes away the love in her and replaces it with
disgust, even for the memories of her husband. And Nnam realizes that nothing really matters
once it stops serving you, and love is just a concept that can loathe you once you get to
understand what love really is.
This story is a science fiction that outlined a situation of a future where human has already
faced massive war against each other involving high-tech robots. The world has come back to a
settlement where man has been affected by application of advancements, and thus restored
back its relation with nature. Appliques, the protagonist of the story, happens to work for a big
company and while working at the green field to cut crops he finds a war robot which has
extinct long ago. So he searches for clue to understand what that robot had been doing there
gasping. But as he searches for answers to the director of law it becomes more clear that what
kind of dystopia has taken over the world. Everything is being, monitored and nobody knows
history clearly. This story is a good example of dystopian imagination.
This is a fantasy story where the future has been portrayed in a way that makes us fear the
possibility of destruction because of the mere advancements of science and technology. This is
very much like the terminator story where a man and woman named Rolf Smith and Lousie
Oliver are only two human beings left alive on earth and all the other ever lived had died
because of some pandemics or because of radioactive dust. And this two man and woman
comes together in order to survive and form generations. But the inherent intension of a
wicked man are there in Smith which shows us that it is men who needs to come out from their
so called understanding of being the lord, owning a women and using them. But at the end
when he finally convince doubtful Lousie to marry him, that he will be committed to her; he
himself gets trapped and the final end of human race begins there.
